Default headgasket replacement

i need to replace a headgasket on my 91LS. The shop here in town wants 455 labor plus 225 for the headgasket. this is only to change the headgasket and check the head for cracks. this seems way to high. if their is anyone in san jose, ca or nor cal that can do it for less than that let me know.

The head gasket shouldn't cost more than $80 at a dealer. Ask them if you can supply the headgasket. Otherwise, find someone else to do it. That is the typical labor rate though.

for 225 you could get a whole head set. Labor a bit more than what i paid, but then again i help the mechanic out.
