What's up everyone! My stock 1996 LS is in need of some headers and I was wondering which one to get. Any ideas? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Headers huh? Why don't you just get one to start...
Cool, thanks for the input so far. I don't have any big goals in mind for the car. Just want it to run decent and perform over stock. So far I have GC on KONI yellows. This is a daily driven car on the rough(and I mean Shitty!) streets of LA.
OK, as far as headers(maybe DC headers?) go, I just want something that provides performance gains and at the same time is carb-legal or still enables the car to pass smog. I am also interested in an exhaust( the Apexi world sport 2) that isn't too obnoxiously loud. So far these are the two parts I am looking into.
I appreciate all the info so far, anything helps! thanks!
Oh yeah! budget for the headers, maybe around $300.

OEM JDM ITR 4-1 header with heat sheilds+JDM cat+ITR catback.

That sounds great and would be ideal...or I could just purchase a used jdm integra! Unfortunately for me I don't have the funds for one. As for my car I am looking into more aftermarket products at this time. Don't get me wrong, I would love a type R! Hahaha! I'm just gonna keep on praying and hopefully one day I could have one.Originally Posted by thabao

idk.... the itr is a good one, but you know they do make aftermarket for a reason. possibly cause they flow better?? megan is a pretty decent brand, and they are pretty cheap too.

If you want aftermarket. Your looking to spend over $500+ for a decent aftermarket header that'll perform and last. Cheap **** like DC and megan wont give you hardly any gains and it'll rust.
He lives in California so he has emissions. Get the ITR 4-1 and heatsheilds, that header is stainless steel and performs great. Plus it'll look stock so you wont have hassles when going through emissions. Some cops wont give a **** about the carb sticker.

get a 2.25 exhaust though 2.5" is kinda big for a LS with bolt ons.
and X2 for the JDM 4-1 header. and if you want it to look nice, haha polish it.

if youre on a super budget (like me), and looking to replace a stock header (thats cracked, like me), just get an ebay one. get some gasket **** from napa and dont mount the rear bracket (it probably wont line up anyways). Through my research, it seems like thats a good, cheap option, if youre not too worried about performance (which you arent, cuz you got a stock ls, lololololol jk). Im going to buy it when I get home from work, I'll make a thread about it when it arrives.

i could be mistaken, but doesn't the JDM ITR 4-1 sit lower than the USDM LS OEM headers?
So if he is already lowered it could possibly scrape, and scrape hard. Someone put in their .02 i wouldn't wanna give the guy the go ahead and see him dent some nice steel headers

I was under the assumption that 4-1 headers sit lower than 4-2-1, this is the reason why I am looking into the DC 4-2-1 one piece... i'm hoping that it works well with the other parts(Apexi WS2 and a short ram) i'm planning to purchase.

well the 4-2-1 and 4-1 are just different ways of channeling air, (4-2-1 means 4 chambers merge to 2 then merge to 1 collector, and 4-1 means 4 chambers merge at the collector) they do not sit any lower than one another. Where the road clearance comes into play is in the JDM part, they were manufactured differently from what i have heard and have a shorter ground clearance than USDM. All that being said i could be wrong, i hope someone can prove otherwise for you, i would like to know as well.
btw man, i drive a 2000LS with ceramic DC 4-1 headers and they work fine with minor gains in throttle response, torque, and hp. Cheap too.

Thanks for all the advice. I thought that the JDM one also came flattened on the bottom, I'm guessing it was for clearance reasons(or am I wrong?). Anyway, as far as clearance I guess I thought that the 4-1 headers sat lower which is bad news for me due to my lowered car. Haha! now i'm trying to read up on longer hybrid 4-2-1 headers which is supposedly better. Thanks for all the advice everyone...I'm still searching for a one piece 4-2-1 by DC in stainless steel or brushed...anyone know where I can find one for a decent price?Originally Posted by Zappythebum
