Default header question

I just put my stock header back on today because I had a p.o.s. ebay one that was getting extremely hot, and I had to take it off. But Im gonna start looking for another header now since Im getting ready to get a new exhaust to, and my integra just doesnt feel the same once I drove it with the stock header back on. But if I get like a dc or megan racing header is it gonna get as hot as the ebay one?like will I need to buy heat wrap or anything to?

idk anything about how hot the headers would get, but i heard that getting hytech headers will help you with your hp gain if that's what you are interested in

well the headers that I got off ebay like after about 15 minutes of driving you could smell them and whenever Id pop the hood it was hot as hell. But tonight when I had put the stock ones back on and I drove for a little while it was warm and not even nearly as hot as it had been with the ebay ones. I wanna get a new set of headers but I wanna make sure that theyre not gonna do the same thing

i have a megan 4-1 on my gsr and i am very happy with it. I got good hp gains for the price. I know there are better brands out there but i couldn't justify, spending 4 times as much money for less than twice the gain. Also if you are concerned with engine bay temperatures you should put in a gage or at least measure the temperature with the stock manni on and again after you get a header. If you think it's a problem you could always wrap them.

I drove it tonight and It didnt feel near as hot as when I had the ebay one was on there and I never could smell it. I think the piping they used was really thin and cheap. I just was trying to find out if that all aftermarket headers got hot like that or if that was just a really cheap and crappy header I bought.

Get the JDM ITR header with a heat shield. The heat shield is what is keeping the heat "out". Or fab up a custom bracket for your aftermarket header for the stock heat shield. Heat wrapping might help a little but if you get a ceramic header, heat wrap will cause it to crack faster.

I had a DC header, never noticed it get hotter than a header should but I never checked the temp on it nor did I touch it.
Personally if you are going to get a header I recommend saving your money and buying a good one. I am in the process of building my motor and will either be making my own custom header or buying an SMSP. And a good header will give you good gains if you have supporting mods.
I also don't recommend wrapping your header. From what I've heard it will keep any moisture you accrue on your header for longer periods of time causing your header to rust and ultimately crack.

im sure you will notice a big change from a ebay header to a DC or Megan not just in temp but maybe a little more power(very little). hytech is what gets people nice gains. ive heard nothing but good things from the Megan header but their gaskets are crap. if you do wrap your header it can lead to cracking and rust but mostly when its a ceramic one.

I've got a DC ceramic and I've never noticed any higher-than-usual (ie stock) temps... Wise choice on removal of the ebay header, though. Typically, you get what you pay for here.

Hytech headers are nice, but they are pricey, and you can't just throw them on...you need to make modifications to the mid pipe, and most of the time you need to remove the catalytic converter. This is illegal in many states. Good luck with a header choice...also, I doubt you found much power with your Ebay header. You are probably just noticing the decrease in noise when you removed it which makesyour car seem slower.

I had a dc sports header and I liked it. Never noticed it getting too hot. Quite a few friends of mine are running with the Megan header and they've never had any problems.

I agree, the gaskets are crap from megan. Anyone have a good suggestion for a good gasket??
