Default header installed today...slight problem though..

installed my header yesterday and finished up today cause i have no garage and did it in the parking lot...plus ran out of light today. Pretty stirght forward, other the 8 year rusted bolts not too bad. Nice results and an overall excellent product. Greddy btw. Great service from http://www.turboevolution.com as well, but there supplier takes too long to get the product to them.

Now the little problem. INstalled fine, until the cat. I dont know if there was a gasket i dropped or lost or what but there was no gasket between header outlet and inlet of the cat. bolted the bottom support up first kinda loose, then thighted down the top side in order and to spec. Then went to the cat, well, one side didnt line up correctly. Slight gap, barely enough for gas to escape, but it does. Here is where i stand. .....

--what could be mis aligned to make them not fit up perfect>?

--Did i loose a gasket somewhere that i dont know about>????

I went ahead and finished it up with it still leaking exhaust gas alittle. For a few reasons. The biggest one being i have come down with a hella cold/flu symptoms from workin out in the cold this weekend. I feel like runny noise, stopped up head, and fever according to the loving g/f and generally feel like poo pooe.....so the cars gonna wait.

Where do i go from here??

Thanks guys

There IS a gasket...its round and thick, like a doughnut. I made the exact same mistake as you did. The gasket will not "fall off" the stock manifold when you remove it, you have to take it off. Right where the stock collector is you'll notice the pipe is angled a little right where the manifold would connect to the cat...that slant is the gasket. Slide it off the stock manifold. It's a pretty easy mistake to make...and easy to fix...you don't even have to take off the header to put the gasket on.

Don't worry about the cold, I installed mine after I got home from work, well some of it at about 2:00 AM and this was in cold *** Utah in my garage partially open. The temperature was probably around 20 degrees so I know how you feel. Anyways, on the OEM header there is a donut gasket that connects to the OEM cat. I'm unsure if you can use the existing donut that should be stuck on the collector of the OEM header, if that can't be done just go to any local auto shop and buy a 2 1/4" donut gasket and then you should be set. Once you put the gasket in the header and bolt it on, make sure you line it up as straight as possible and it should fill in any holes you might be working with right now.

On your 8 year old car, your gasket might have disinigrated...really. When I took off my old exhaust manifold, the gasket turned into dust as I pryed it off.

I got a replacement at my local NAPA auto parts for $12.

ok im still alive, barely, shaking like a barb wire fince with fever so pardon my spelling errors. You right, the dounut gasket may be so badly rusted on there that i didnt recognize it. However if its rusted on i can replace it with a NAPA part? If so thats what i might do. Just as soon as i feel better. Much thanks for the help thus far guys, im gonna go out to the outside closet in alittle while and see if its on there. I will let you know.

I'm sure you can replace it. A long time ago when I had my header installed ( , I didn't know anything about cars), they forgot to put it on.

It rattled a lot, so I went to Minekie (sp?) and they threw one on for $20 including labor! Can't beat that.

So yeah, I guess you can replace it with another brand.
