Default head question b18!

I have just recently purchased another b18 head for my 91 teg. The motor in the teg right now was rebuilt, all seals, bearings, polished crank, and machined head. My problem is that the machine shop screwed something up when they were cleaning the lifters up, or so i think, cause after 4 valve adjustments, i still have a hard valve tap. I am going to put the head i just purchased on and see if i can fix the problem before i destroy a fresh head. I have been trying to get the valve springs out of newly bought head with every tool i could find in town, nothing worked. I looked on some other posts and found the valve tool i need but it is A LOT . If anyone has any comments on what could of happened at the machine shop that would of caused the bad taping, or knows where to find a valve tool for a reasonable price, i would appreciate the help. One more question, How many times can a set of head bolts be reused safely before replacing. The only place i could track down head bolts was dealer, $158 for the set. Thanks for any help.

B18A/B or B18C1/5...? For the B18A/B you can just a regular 12mm wrench, as for the V-tec heads, Snap-On carries those "special" tool for lesser then OEM. You can also torch down a 10mm wrench to a similar shaped.

Why don't you just take it back to the shop that did that... as for the head studs, just replace them with some APR. They run about a $100, cheaper and better then OEM.

my buddy turbo-ls had the same problem... after adjusting the valves 3 times we figured out the problem.... where the rockers sit looks like a large nut in the head, was very worn causing a valve tick sound....we took these from another head as well as the rockers and adjusted the valves... problem solved... just thought id through that out there maybe save u the trouble of swapping heads.... let me know how u make out
