Looking to do a rebuild on a 01 gsr having an issue with a knocking noise at cold start up or whenever the car sits for a while. I was looking to buy a used head an block an rebuild it that way since i dont have a second vehicle. Need help figuring this out i was told by a friend that the knocking noise on cold start up is a piston. Any help would be great as this would be my first rebuild and i would be taking it to a local machine shop

next time you start it up, open the hood and try to figure out if coming from block or head.

cold start up rattle can be "rod knock" as they call it . or can be valtrain related.

Sounds like its coming from the block it just started a few weeks ago but when it warms up it goes away no problems performance wise
