Default Gsr compression test

I've got a 99 gsr integra. I'mabout to start doing bolt ons on the motor. Well the motor has a lot of mile roughly 245xxx miles. I was told to do a compression test. So I did. So here is the problem I ran into. When doing compression test I turned the car over constant. Test showed about 120. I didn't think that was right so someone told me not to hold it constant. So I would spin it over and then let off then spin it over and let off. Did that a few time and got a 182 and i got the same results on all 4 cylinders. Is 182 the correct pressure or would the 120 be correct.oh an it is all stock and orriginal Thanks for the help

182 across all 4cyl ? there HAD to be some varration....not the best but considering the miles ok i guess. my 94 GSR got 235-240 across all 4cyl just so you can judge it off someone elses numbers.

between 180-200 is the normal for those engines ? thought that was b16 territory. I could have sworn it was 200 or above maybe someone else can confirm.

I'm not sure you're doing the test right. Do it with the engine warmed up and the throttle wide open. There is no need to turn the key multiple times -- just power the starter until the gauge stops going up.

There way a write up in the sticky FAQ can't seem to find it OP google "compression test how to" just to make sure you're doing it right. @Gagnar do you think those numbers are low for his engine with that many miles assuming it was keept in good shape ?

If the numbers are consistent there's not really much that a low reading tells you, as far as I know. Maybe it would suggest a cam timing problem, or improperly adjusted valves. Age-related failures like headgasket failures or ring problems typically affect some cylinders more than others, and you'd get uneven results.

That said a reading of 120 DEFINITELY would indicate something is wrong. 180 might have me doing more digging, but could be a healthy result for some gauges. A good way to check would be with a wet test.

Standard compression is 270psi, min. is 140psi, max variation is 28psi.

As mentioned something is not right, 182psi is just OK, but getting 182 on all 4 cylinders is not going to happen, especially on an engine with 245xxx miles on it.

I would do as suggested, with warm engine crank untill gauge stops climbing, do a wet test and if compression goes up you need rings. 94

Ok we had unplugged the distributor. Didn't unplug the relay.
And ok if you unplug the relay therefore getting no fuel to motor what's the point of holding full throttle suck air into motor?

So you'r engine can turn over so you can read what it got on the compression stroke(4 stroke engine)

270 is factory spec if you get 200 i'd be happy with 240,xxx miles

Just little update. I was tinkering under the hood a little and decided to retry the compression test. I only had time to do one cylander and I was only a little curious. Unplugged distributor didn't unplug relay. Motor was warm. I got a 210 on one cylander. Tomorrow ill be replacing the mater cylander once done with that I should have time to do a full compression test. Ill post results.

No I didn't pull all plug. Just the one I had tested. Wa skids trying to get things picked up so I could tart cooking when I decided to just try it on one of the cylanders. I think I keep spelling cylanders wrong but when I try to spell it differently my phone auto corrects it. Anyways. Tomorrow when I finish with the master cylander I will pull them all and test. Them all.

Fuse 15 under hood or under dash?

Don't trust that test if you left the plugs in and didn't hold it at WOT for 3-4 cranks. yes under the hood just type cyl is you phone doesn't like cylinder
