Ground control or tein
for what purposes ? are you going to be racing ? auto x ? just for slammed looks ?
Don't just pick a suspension for it's name...they have different purposes.

There are two different suspension setups that are referred to as coilovers. The first is a true coilover system. These are designed for the hardcore enthusiast and racer. They comprise of an adjustable height spring with a custom valved shock. The shock will always be designed to work perfectly with the spring, so blowing them isn't a concern. They are almost fully adjustable, so they have the versatility to work with any type of racing. The downside is the high price tag.
The other choice is technically a coilover sleeve. This unit is only a spring mounted to hardware that allows a height adjustment. Most are low quality and come with cheap springs. They can be found for low prices and the adjustability is a plus for many people. Some of the better brands are Ground Control and Skunk 2. The Ground Controls can be purchased with a custom spring rate, which makes them a favorite with autocrossers.
That was an article from another website...figured it would help you. And I am sure that you know, the higher the spring rate, the stiffer the spring, the stiffer the ride!

999 tein or 280 for GC???? im so confused I want teins but they are so freaking expensive ...i know u get waht u pay for and I love the JDM...damnit im so confused
well 999 for the teins is not the lowest price. Ive seen them go for 800 something. If you get the ground controls and you lower your car, youre gonna need new struts unless you wanna blow the stock ones out. Adjustable struts plus the GC's are close to the price of the teins. And, while the adjustable struts are 5 way adjustable, the Teins are friggin 16

The GCs do not come with a shock either. If u add the 300 for the GCs and the 350 for shocks thats 750.00. Ive seen the Tein SS set up for 850 online (search). In my opinion the 850-900 for a coilover system that was meant to go together is way better than the 750 ones that you piece together. just my $.02.

OK OK OK honda tech does it again Im going Tein Its JDM all the way...I dont know what the hell I was thinking...Why on earth would I think that the JDM teins wouldnt be better please forgive me HT
No i totaly disagree...
i can't stand it on there how people jock TEIN (they are both a beautifl/great product), but for the money they lack flexibility. TEIN's (using the SS for example), don't have such desired features like shock/strut revalving (when they blow) or custom valved rates for a higher rated spring. I beleive the HA's allow revalving, and also a pillow ball mount, but for that price after you get ITR LCA's and the HA's they still don't achieve the full flexibilty for the amount of money they cost.
Now with the sleeved style coil-over (using Ground Control for example) you can customize the rate in [lbs] that you desire (past 1000lbs or more for AUTO-X). Now to meet such a high spring rate you need a shock/strut to handle the load (KONI yellow struts for example). Using KONI's gives you the opputunity to re-valve the shock/strut to a customizable rate to match your custom spring rate. The sleeve also allows you to interchange different springs on the same shock (a pain the the a$$) but can TEIN offer that for under $1,800?? Nope!
Don't get me wrong i love TEIN's but like most people on here, for street/track/auto-x use (your normal intermediate and amature enthusiast)hopefully opt. for optimal performance at the most resonable and best cost possible; a GC and KONI yellow set-up is a far better approach!
I know it will cost you a little more money to have the GC and KONI's re-valved and customized, but not as much as HA's or a FLEX system by TEIN.
SORRY FOR WRITING A BOOK & MISSPELLING !!

there are special GC adapters to fit the KONI shock/strut (if you go this route)

How are the stock GC spring rates? Are they good for for just spirited driving? Should I get custom rates? I'm going from H&R race springs with KYB AGX shocks to GC's. I've searched around already, but I want some more opinions.
