Default grinding in 5th

new owner of an integra GSR, and i dont know that much about them yet.
all my gears work great except 5th. once in 5th it does just fine, but going into it i get a split second of grinding. it almost feels like its being pressed against something on the side. but it happens every time i go into 5th.

the slower i and softer i shift, the less its there, but its still there, and i cant shift into 5th that slow everytime.

anyone know what this could be? its not that bad, but i feel like i am hurting the car everytime i shift into 5th. my dad is bettter at stick than me, and he grinds it a lot less, but he still does it once in a while. so when i get better at driving it should get better, but is that an all out cure for this??

thanks

Check your fluid. It may be low.

If it is low just change it out, costs about $15 and it is well worth it.

Here is a How-To on a fluid change, Fluid Change

it could b tranny fluid or it could b a bad synchro..i would suggest you go get some GM synchromesh modified friction tranny fluid part # 12377916..it cost about $11 a quart a u need 3 quarts...this should hide that grinding that u feel when shifting into 5th...i had the same problem and 2 days after the fluid change it was gone....

i got it to not grind, but when i leave 4th i must put in the clutch, and then before i engage 5th i must pull off and depress the clutch again. this gets rid of it, but it gets annoying. i will have the fluid change done, or do it myself, depending on when the oil gets done, thanks

Change ur tranny fluid. If it still grinds, u might have a bad syncro.

i dont think its the clutch, i have a centerforce with only 10k miles on it. i think its the tranny fluid, i called the guy i bought the car from and he said that he was having tranny fluid problems, and when he put some good stuff in, the trans ran a lot better.

my vote is low fluid, since 5th gear is the last one in the tranny case to receive lubrication, and it might not be getting enough.

When you change it, make *sure* the car is level when you fill it, or you won't get enough in there (going by fluid running out the fill hole as being enough).
