Default Gas Gauge problem

Got something else I need help with. My cluster gas gauge seems to be off. I haven't noticed it before because I only look at when the light for gas turns on but this is the problem. I wait til the light cuts on and go fill up well I can only put in like 6 to 7 gallons and the gauge goes up to 3/4. I tried to move the needle on the cluster but as you know that don't work with floaters. 1) Is the floater stuck or not functioning properly, 2) Gauge cluster fudged up, 3)Something is in the gas tank, 4)you name something I missed. Thanx in advance for your help.

just wondering but do you have indiglow gauges? if so, then the gauge could be hitting the needle from behind causing it not to move.
if you do not have indiglo guages it could be the floater.
for me my gas guage was not reading correctly at one time. then when i stopped putting the climate control on the heat side, it read correctly. i haven't tried puttin it back to the heater side to see if that was the problem because the weather has not been cold enough to do so. hope this helps you in some way

are you sure you're filling up all the way?

once the light goes on, the needle going up to 3/4 tank with 6-7 gallons added makes sense to me.

edit => grammar edit..

Sounds right to me too. Stock tank holds 13 gallons. Your light cuts on when you have about 3 gallons left. So 6-7gallons would be about 3/4 a tank.

NEVER TRUST A GAS GAUGE Know your miles per tank and fill accordingly, have been burned by watching that damn gauge.

Thats my point is that the gauge never hits full. I let the pump run on its own til it stops. Then I sit and wait and it only goes to 3/4. The lit turns on when it is at the red line.

With that said I guess that we have finally reached a conclusion.
