Default Front upper control arm self locking nut

My Helms manual says that when the front upper control arms are removed, the two nuts that hold the control arm to the strut tower need to be replaced. It says that they are self locking and need to be replaced every time they are removed. My question is, do they absolutely need to be replaced? Could I reuse them and put some loctite on them? I don't want to have to wait for the dealership to ship new ones to me.

Run a tap through them, apply anti-seize compound and reuse them. Do not apply thread locker. That's what the cotter pin is for.

The nuts that I am talking about do not have cotter pins. I am talking about the nuts on the strut tower, inside of the engine bay. They connect the upper arm to the strut tower. There are two on each side of the engine bay.

I have never replaced mine, I just reused them, but I did notice one was loose after 200km, tightened it back up.

My understanding is that those nuts a slightly oval so they "bite" the bolt effectively locking to them. Every replacement UCA I've seen comes with them.

Nail them with a hammer to oval them again. Just kidding

I have a Skunk 2 Pro Plus kit. I bought it new from someone here on H-T, but it did not come with replacement nuts. Do you know if it was supposed to? Maybe S2 can send me some. If not, do you think that loctite will be good enough? Thanks

No, I was really refering to stock replacement UCAs. That's pretty weak that S2 didn't give you any with yours, seeing how much they charge.

If it was me, I would get the correct nuts but that's just me.
