Default Flywheel question

i was told by very respectfull sources that a lighter flywheel would unbalance my motor. they told me that **** would start braking after a while. in the other hand, i see that alot of you h-t guys have lighter flywheels. what's the deal?? will it damage the motor or not??? i'm very confused.

Well a lighter flywheel should make the motor unbalanced (I would think). The entire bottom end is balanced as a complete assembly. Once you change the weight of one piece, the others will be thrown out of balance.

The only thing I can think of why the motor won't be hurt that much is that the flywheel itself is balanced, so the rotation of it would be balanced. The weight reduction might not have much of an effect as I said above...

Now I am kind of confused, but hoped to bring more information forward.

I've had a JUN 10 lb. flywheel for two years.

I drive my car hard.

It hasn't blown up yet.
