Default Fluids

Alright, so I normally run 91+ octane in my GSR for fuel, but what kind of motor oil should I run? I've been running Royal Purple 5W-30, anything you guys have had good luck with?

What about tranny fluid? I've heard the Royal Purple tranny fluid is pretty good too...

Also, brakes and clutch, DOT3 or DOT4? What do you think?

As for coolant I usually run 40/60 (Coolant/Water), what about you?

Well, I know I'm right in the fuel, oil, and coolant fields, then

What about tranny fluid, brake fluid, and clutch fluid?

Also, is it a good idea to flush your clutch fluid if it looks milky?

Personally I use:

Motor Oil = Valvoline Synthetic (bought it on sale 5 bucks for a gallon and picked up 15 gallons)

Coolant = Honda

Brakes = ATE Super Gold/Blue (DOT 4 should be fine for daily use).

Clutch = Dot 4 Brake Fluid (can't remember which brand).

I use 10w-40 Penzoil because Royal Purple was too thin and kept burning it like water and coolant I usually use 50/50. 198k miles on it and it still runs like a champ

I would be able to use the ATE Blue racing fluid in my clutch as well, right?

Alright, thanks!

Do you think the royal purple Synchromax tranny fluid is pretty good, too?

Never used it.

I am using some Amsoil stuff and it works well with my LS tranny. When I flushed it after 7 months and 2 track events it came out looking pretty good still.

Edit, my buddy uses it in his dedicated track R and has no problems yet and loves it, he said he had some problems at the end of a session with grinding before switching to amsoil.

Alright, I might try to get some of that Honda MTF, then, I've heard that's pretty good.

I heard GM synchromesh is really good. But I used the Pennzoil synchromesh a while back and it worked great on a different car I had.

I run 15-50w Mobil 1 on my boosted GSR and I never leak or burn a drop.
Honda Coolant is the only way to go
DOT 3 is what I believed to be best for dd use, but I may be wrong

edit:: coolant percentage depends on where you live. here in fla I can run less coolant and more water because it doesnt freeze here, but in ND your obviously gonna freeze so you run a 50/50 mix

Yeah, but in the summer it gets fricken hot here, so I try to get a higher percentage of water in the summer in my coolant just so it runs a little cooler...

Yeah, winter here gets to -20 F without the wind chill and our summers get to 110 F without humidity, meaning here in North Dakota we're getting the extremes of about -45 F to 125 F and it isn't good...

So I don't fully 'flush' my radiator twice a year, I only flush it once a year, but I dump it out and fill it with a different mix at the end of winter... I also reset my ECU twice a year, change my rims twice a year, and adjust throttle position twice a year...

I clean my air filter and breather once a month as well, wash my car once a week in the winter (salt and sh*t make 'er rust) and whenever it gets too dirty in the summer...

just a Q. for you guys...How bad is it to switch from Synthetic oil to reg oil? Just bought a ls/vtec and the guy used synthetic. personally I dont like it...can I switch over slowly (use 2 bottles of synthetic and 2 of reg, and just eventually switch to reg) OR will this really ruin the rings pretty bad???

tnx

Honestly, I've heard that once you use synthetic you can't use regular oil... but I've never had a problem with putting whatever in... I do regular compression tests and check my blow-by all the time and there never seems to be a problem...

Most recently I've stuck to synthetic, Royal Purple 5W-30, so I don't worry any more, but as stupid as this sounds I see it as: oil is oil... lol

I used synthetic for years and then went back to regular when I realized I was just throwing my money away (given my driving routine). I made the switch at about 100k miles. Car is over 135k now and no consumption/leakage problems.

Good luck with the oil, dude, just remember that sometimes the only way to learn something is the hard way... so be careful. Like I said, I've never seen a problem with it, but I've heard experienced techs say its bad...
