Default First Car Problems

Well I'm stuck with choosing between a mk4 GTI and an Integra. I love both and I know I can make decent power with both cars (aiming for 350hp) and my dad is a mechanic who owns his own shop so maintenance is not a problem. I have both cars in my family and its a hard decision for me. My uncle drives a teggy that is his racecar and he had a mk6 gti daily and now he has a mk7 because he loved it so much.

NOTE: Totally came to the Honda Forums for a biased opinion but at the same time I have a certain love for GTI's too.

hate to say it, GTI. Upgrade the turbo, new map and you're golden. Had some fun in my friends GLI after he upgraded the turbo and new map. He was scared to drive it.

Integra if you're ready for a rebuild. The rebuild is key to reaching 350hp, the engine and the tranny. I waste no time in telling you to do it right the first time instead of waiting for something to break.

1.8t is good for MAYBE 300whp before needing forged internals. Those model years are honestly the worst GTIS made. They didn't really get it right again until mk6 IMO. Both cars will need a decent amount of work and mods to get to 350whp. The Integra will be cheaper. I had a 2000 TT that I considered building, but traded it for my Teg instead.

I'm a little confused on how you say the Teg will be cheaper, maybe it's all location. I live in Florida and all the GTIs I find on craigslist are in better shape and are cheaper than the Tegs but a lot of the GTIs are automatic :/

Also I've been talking to my dad and I've also considered a 1996-2000 civic hatch which is one of the first cars my dad recommended. So I'd love opinions on those too!

civics are cheap as **** but come with the 1.6 single you'll need to swap in a 1.8 dohc if you are considering anything past 200wheel. You have to specify what B18 engine the VTEC b18c1 could do 350 whp on E85 and still be reliable, you can do that on pump but it's not going to last very long. Disregard the non-vtec ones the rods are **** and have 30 ish less hp than a C1. Forget the type r engine at that point the VW will be a big amount cheaper in terms of that 350+wheel goal. I really don't know what the cost to get a mk4 to 350 whp is, for the tegg you could do it with 2.5k-ish on top of an assumed 3K purchase price you'd be in around 6K all said and done most likely.

Someone needs to post an accurate cost breakdown to get a mk4 to 350whp+ for the b-series it's all over these forums. I would go with the mk4 TDI if I had to pick only because diesel....

This thread is turning into a "what should I buy" instead of a comparison. I'm out.

Mild build on a gsr. Arp headstuds and rod bolts, and slap a decent turbo and tune. Youll be golden.
