Extremely low compression?!
Education is priceless.
it is only 75-150$ to pressure test and resurface. Now you get to do the job again. I don't understand on mission critical items like the minimum of a cylinder head pressure test. Your last move doesn't allow for any to further diagnostics besides removing the cylinder head again. Good luck with repair.

I literally could not afford to do that. Like I wish I could have. Also I was doing the repairs at a friends house and I could not leave my car in their garage to get my head resurfaced and pressure checked.
I appreciate your input and I agree that I should have done that.
Also, I should add, it’s only cylinder four that’s doing it. Ignition coil, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all new.
(Also I did the quick and dirty test of pulling each plug wire as it’s misfiring and see if anything changes. Sure enough, it’s cylinder four.)
I suppose next I could bring it to a shop and see if they’ll do a leakdown test for me...alternatively, is swapping injectors a good idea? (Like, move #4s injector over a cylinder and see if the misfire changes places?) Last I checked my fuel system was within spec of fuel pressure.

Fuel.........spark........compression
three things needed for an 4 cycle, gasoline engine to run.
so quit beating around the bush. What is compression after correct vavle lash and head gasket replacement?

I don’t quite appreciate your attitude towards me. I’m not an idiot, and I don’t like being treated as one. Apologies if I’m misreading that, you can’t tell tone through text on a screen.
Well he is being hard on you, but he is right.
Do it right and do it once.
But, try to save money, cheap out/ do it wrong, you will have to do it again and wind up paying twice.
Take your time and do it right. Even if it means you need to take the bus and eat ramon for an extra week or two. It will save you in the long run....

bahahahahaha that made me laugh, thank you. Also I know it’s not a fuel issue now, as I swapped cylinder 4s injector with 3 and the misfire stayed in 4. So, we’re looking at either a warped/cracked head, or bad rings. Given the bore was stupid smooth (well, I mean, at 200k, I’d bet all that cross hatching has been worn down). I’ve got a lead on running b18a1 for pretty cheap, which I may just swap in to keep the car driveable and learn how to rebuild a motor the correct way. I appreciate all the help I get on this forum.
