Default EXHAUST!!!

I put my Evo on today. It sounds badass. The only problem is, when I barely rev it above idle there is this really loud and annoying rattle. Me and my friends couldn't figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

just get under the car and see if there is any spots where the exhaust piping comes really close to anything.....i have seen exhausr rub on sway bars before so you may want to look there

I didn't take the heat shields out, could that have anything to do with it?

99.9% sure its your heatshield. Common problem in integras.

I had the same thing happento me. The heat shield doesn't have anything to do with it. The muffler shop said it was my b-pipe so they checked it and repaired it. Once it was repaired i had no problems after that.

maybe it's the heatshield and they charged you a "repair fee" but in reality, they removed the heat shield.

hey it could happen!

I took all the heatshields form the cat back off. It still rattles really bad between 1000 and 2500 rpms. any other ideas what it could be? All the hangers are on right. It is really getting annoying though.

my only guess would be the heatshield too but others mentioned to ck to see if its rubbing anywhere... look below the rear axle and verify that its not rubbing against your rear sway bar.

But it only happens right when I turn the car on, and then when I rev it a little bit. After that, it completely goes away.

You need to get under the car and move the pipe side to side near the back to see if it is coming in contact with the gas tank or something. It is a whole lot easier on a lift.
I had about 1/4" clearance at the first bend back from the muffler on my Apexi WS on my Si. Now it has about 3/4" clearance after banging a dent in the chassis. The new pipe has a larger diameter than stock and the bends might be different.

yeah, i have the same problem. when backing out of my driveway when the engine is cold, there is this really loud annoying rattle that can be heard really well even outside of the car. i took off the heatshield, and that helped it a lot, but every now and then i still hear a slight rattle. I also have the Evo...but i think other exhausts can still rattle too. but to answer your question, i'd just take off the heatshield and if that don't solve it look under it or take it to a muffle shop and have them diagnose it if you still don't know what's wrong with it.

Mine rattles against one of the hangers, I found out tonight. Me and my dad tried to rig it with tape for now, but he told me he will spot weld it on for me so it doesn't rattle anymore.

bent the hanger until the muffler was still in the correct position and not hitting the hanger.

just bend the last hanger so the muffler is a little bit lower and not touching.

Check to make sure that the exhuast isn't rattling against your shifter. This has been found to be a problem many times, especially if you have a short shifter installed, but I'd would definately start by checking that first.

I don't have a short shifter, but I know it's by the muffler because when my friend held the muffler and I revved, it didn't rattle. But when he let go, it rattled.
