engine rev problem on a gsr
My friend has a 98 gsr and one night he decided to go out and have a little fun in it. On the way home, he pushed his car at the light and then his car's engine malfunctioned and would not go past 5K.. it just sat there at 5K as if it were redlining.
Does anyone know of why this is happening and how to fix it?
thx guys

meaning taking off at the light.. everything was fine before hand and it was a big surprise..
the engine was warmed up and have been driven for a while, and the temp guage was averagely in the middle.
I'll look in to checking the throttle body, but if any other possibilities come up, i'm def. up for having them.
what would you mean by something stuck in the throttle body?
thanks

meaning there is something stuck not letting the butterfly spin past a 5K voltage readout so the ecu stops fuel and only lets it sit at 5k....but this wouldnt be the problem if your friend can push the pedal to the floor...check your spark plugs and wires and perhaps your distributor
Check for CELs. You said that the car seemed like it hit a rev limiter. There may be a problem with the VTEC system.
Typical causes include low oil level, clogged VTEC solenoid screen, VTEC pressure sensor, etc.
