Buy a cherry picker, you can get them for about 150 bucks. If not use jackstands and pull that sucker out!

jack the car all the way up, remove everything, and just use the cat to lower the engine and there you go, engine out, grab a beer and look at the empty engine bay, and might as well do a wire tuck

you guys are all a bunch of wimps....cherry pickers are nice...but for work i do for people on the side it isnt always practical to drag my huge cherry picker w/ me....just pull off everything like youd in a normal engine pull....take off the header....drop the car as low and you can...literally almost right on the brake rotors....w/ the jack all the way down....unbolt the engine and have some blocks under there so it doesnt fall down....i usually use a creeper so i can roll it out after.....then once the motor is unbolted from the chassis start the upwards jacking...i usually have to use 2 6" blocks to get it high enough but you should then be able to slide it right out the driver's wheel well....just be carefull when lifting to not catch anything like the tps or evap solenoid and youll be all set

thats actually a pretty damn good idea..only problem is when a car jacks up...it rises at an angle...it doesnt lift straight up...this would pose clearance issues

Thats exactly why this method is completly safe to use with a lift, you can swap a motor in a couple hours with a lift. Just unbolt the motor, put a jack under it, and lift the car up. You have to jack that sucker pretty high to slide the motor out from under it and I just dont trust my jack stands that much...not at that high of an angle.

psh who said anything about jackstands....usually how i start my motor pulls...get all my **** together...including 8 6x6" blocks of wood i bought from homedepot and cut to about 12" in length.....i usually always try to work on a smooth level surface...

after i get everything off i jack the rear of the car up and set it on 2 blocks on each side....then i get the front up as high possible and use my HD 3/4 ton jackstands to hold it there....then i slide my creeper underneath the car...its a heavy duty deep set metal creeper....dont try it w/ a wooden one itll crack horribly....but then i take the front wheels off if they arent already out...pull the axles from the hubs using the crafstman 1/2" trick.....and droppin the car down very very low...basically you should be able to set the car on the rotors....make sure of course you put the hub back in after youve pulled the axles out so it doesnt collapse if you let the jack down.....

then after looseing all the mounts the motor slow drops and sits on the creeper...and you start to jack the front up....go to jackstands run out....then get 2 blocks + the jack....ive found it pretty easy to do w/ a custom mod'd 6x6....basically i notched the 6x6 to be a semi perfect fit w/ the center jackin point on the front radaitor support....i have a standard craftsman 3ton jack....about 19" of lift w/ the 2 6" blocks gets about 31" of lift.....now make sure if you have a dc that if the ceiling is low you dont jack the hood into the ceiling...doh!!! seen a few do that....but just be careful going up....onces its up...youll see the nice tunnel that the motor has to leave.....watch the sensors...when jackin up the motor...the subframe is very close and can catch anything on the back and mess it up....but if you careful you can easily move the motor out w/ a slight pull here and there on the way up.....then yank it out the drivers side wheel well and your golden....reverse steps for putting one back in....

on a good day workin by myself i can pull N install a motor in about 6hrs w/o airtools....i use this method regardless if i have a cherry picker or not....when i do have the picker...i use it to life the radiator support w/ tow straps....just makes it easier w/ no steps or jack....and i can go pretty dam high easily enough to clear the entire motor

sidenote....dont leave the jack fully extend for a long period of time....it is dangerous and will move...be careful and not stupid and youll never have a problem
