Default Engine problem

It seems that occasionally i will have this problem. My car will seem to shutter and shake as if the engine is cutting out very briefly upon acceleration. Sometimes it can be pinpointed between the 2k and 3k range, and sometimes it just happens anywhere. It doesnt always have to be 1st and 2nd either. Sometimes at cruising speed in 4th around 2 and 3 k it will do it also. Can someone help me pinpoint my problem. This seems to happen some days then it will go away for a month or so,then reappear.
