Ok so for some reason all of a sudden my tachometer is all over the place. I have been trying to troubleshoot it but I need HT's help. The car is a 92 GSR with 108,000k. It's is completely stock except for the removal of the resonator on the intake and it has been replaced with a AEM filter.
I have installed new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I took the exhaust off and drove it with an open header same problem. I swapped out the fuel filter and installed a fuel pressure gauge. The pressure is within spec. Sometimes the car will die and then it will drive fine for a bit. Other times the car feels like the fuel has cut out and it will jerk hard and miss.
One more thing...every time I try to accelerate once I get to about 4500 rpm's the car just stutters and hesitates...any help would be greatly appreciated. Hell if someone can solve my problem I would be more than happy to Paypal them some cash!!!

i have that problem now its probably the iac valve (idle air control) theres one behind the intake and the other below the throttle body it has coolant lines going in and out of it. try cleaning it out with throttle body cleaner it should do justice

The one behind the intake mani. is the IAC, the other, i believe is the FITV. Both would cause idle problems, but... that doesn't look like an idle problem you have there. In that video, is that just doing that itself? Or are you giving it gas and it's just jumping around.

yeah I give it gas and it jumps around...but it will also do it by itself when it's warming up...D

I had a civic that moved around by itself when it warmed up. I've never seen that tach jump around like that when the rpm's are that high. I'd try cleaning out that IAC valve, and take it from there. Also check antifreeze levels, sometimes if that doesn't get enough coolant, it will cause idle to jump around.

ok I'll try the IAC and see if that helps...if anyone else has any suggestions please fire away...D
from the sound of the video it sounds like the egine is idleing fine it looks like its just the tack has something wrong with it, or the signal going to it i would check your wiring

ok but I'm more concerned about the stuttering and missing at higher RPM's I'm pretty sure it's all connected...D

well with all that's going on I'm going to try and replace the coil and see if that works....I hope so because this is starting to get expensive...I'm going to have no money left for mods...D
i have the same problem.. and i was going to replace my ignitor.. but den i remember i have warranty so im going to replace the distrubutor tomorrow afternoon.. my tach goes wild aswell, and but idles fine but u can tell its losing power a bit.. Ill replace it and ill let you guys know what happenes on my side.
You might have some "stuttering" dont really see it, your tach going all over the place in my guess is something with your wiring.
Dont look at the tach and just listen to the motor it its preety close to normal
if your engine is what that tach is saying the sound of the motor wouldn't be as smooth, your tach is jumping 3000 rmps at a time
My 0.002 cents

yeah i'm thinking I might just replace the whole distributor with and MSD unit since I can get a good price on them...D

well i was right it was my ignitor..(same problem i had the tach will bounce or just go every) but since i had warranty for the whole distributor i replace the whole thing.. i just paid to shipped the defective one,. but what you can do is just replace the ignitor and save some money that way.. i wouldnt really recommend a msd ignition installed unless you have nos, turbo or supercharged...thats when you will need it.. but thats your choice....
