ECU smoking....please help! (Long)
I have a 94 JDM GSR in my hatch with a OBD1 P72 ECU for the past 3 years...not a single problem what so ever. But since i have ITR cams in my car, i recently switched from the P72 to a JDM ITR ECU (P73). P72 was running 100% with no problems before i removed it and my P73 works wonderfully as well.
So today, i go and sell my P72 to a local guy but before buying it, he wanted to test the ECU in his car. No probs....he can test it first. His car is a teg RS with a 94 JDM GSR swap in it. He has been running his car with a P75 (RS/LS) ECU because he never found a OBD1 P72 up to now so he has never hit VTEC before. Well, he plugged up the ECU and started the car. No probs.....idled for like 15 secs and he went for a test run. But before getting out of the parking lot, he runs out of his car and disconnects the battery and yells to me "your ECU is smoking!!". I was like WTF?!?! So we open the ECU to find what we think to be burnt transistor (dunno for sure if it was...the part is not marked in the pic below, i will mark it later tonigth when i get home and i think the P28 is a little different than the P72). He still payed me for the ECU (at a hit of $50 ) but i am thinking his car's wiring really F$CKED the ECU. But he argues that the his P75 runs fine with no problems. Fine...i give him that but his ECU also never operated VTEC meaning his VTEC wires could of been wired/pinned incorrectly. Of course, i searched HT for any similar cases and it seems that i have found this:

Does anyone have any insight on this? He still payed me but i just don't want it to come back and bite my butt! Just want to do some homework seeing that he is looking into fixing it. Does anyone have a pic of a open P72? Thanks.
