drove through a puddle
I have a CAI and the plastic shield under the car is cut so the CAI gets more air(old owner did it). The filter doesn't go past the shield. I went through 2 big puddles today. My car is at stock height
There was a flood here. As soon as I saw the puddles, I clutched in and coasted. When I got home, the intake was wet. It wasn't soaking wet. But there was a few drips in the filter.
But would I know if I sucked up water right away? Hydrolock? Does hydrolock happen over a bit of time, or right away?
Id say the puddle was half a foot deep.
I didn't stall or lose any power. I took off the air filter to see inside it. While it was off, i started the car up and it started fine. i got it up to about 4k rpm and it was fine.

you're fine lol you'd notice it as soon as it happened if you really did hydro lock it. Tip: turn the car completely off if you're REALLY scared of the water at hand or get a bypass valve.
When I took off the air intake filter, to look inside it. Only was I can describe it is... it looks like someone spat in the intake once. that's how much fluid was in it.
i just ordered one of these

That should do it imo, what you described is nothing to worry about, any little bit that may have made it's way up would have easily evaporated before it could even cause a "hiccup" that would be noticeable.
Thanks. Good thing I saw the water. As soon as I did, I clutched in, neutral and coasted through the puddle. But I had to give it a bit of gas to clear the puddle. But my car sits at stock height and the intake filter is just above the splash guard
at least you didnt do what I did.
ran hoodless, had a massive downpour, drove through a parking lot that was flooded and didnt know it till I hit the water. low car and a cai that sits unprotected. damn car sucked up so much water it hydrolocked at idle. piece of hose, towels, and 20 minutes later I had it fired back up with no damage haha.

I've had encounters with sudden downpours and puddling/deeper than normal water on the highways
As a precaution I would disconnect the cai at the throttle body
When the rain and flooding subsided,I'd bolt the cai back on

Hmm that's a good idea. Very thought of that. I would always just throw it in neutral and coast threw it, but I'll have to try that next time
