driving without the ECT switch hooked up?
I did a B18B swap into my 90' Integra and I had to extend the ECT switch plug to the thermostat housing because its on a different spot on the B18B than it is on a 90' B18A. Well aparantly I didnt dive it enough slack and somehow the wires got ripped right out of the plug. I tried recrimping them back into the pins but that didnt work so I bought a plug off somebody parting there car out with a couple inches of wire on it. But it wont be here for a couple days and I need to drive the car.
My question is, is it safe to drive the car still with this plug not hooked up? What can or will happen exactly? Will the fans and everything still kick on like they should? I just put in a new thermostat too so I'm kinda worried about it overheating and me not being able to tell because my guage isnt working. Let me know what can and will happen without this plug hooked up. Thanks.

Also, I bought a plug off someone with a 97' Integra. The car is a 90', should I be okay? I am running a B18B motor but I'm wondering if I should of got one for my year car specificaly or if any 90-01 ECT plug will work.
no the fans will not work since the ecu gets the signal from the ect to turn the fans on. the thermostat will operate like it normally would because it is mechanical. once the coolant reaches a certain temperature, it'll open. i'm not going to say that it'll be safe to drive it, but i doubt it'll blow up as long as you're moving and not sitting at idle for extended periods of time.
So will the guage work? I can deal with my fans not turning on for a while as long as the temp guage works properly so I can keep a eye on it. I thought there were 2 different sensors, one for the fans and one for the guage, but I'm not sure.
And what about the plug? Are they all the same or are they different? My car is a 90' but my motor is a 97', so what plug do I need?

I know there are lots of Honda's on this site but sometimes I wonder where the 'tech' goes. A stupid intake thread can go 10 pages no problem but no one seems to be able to answer easy questions like this.
Anyways, yes they are controlled by 2 different sensors. The one on the thermostat housing is just to let the fans know when to kick on. There is a seperate sensor located under your distributor on the head that sends a signal to your temperature guage in the car.
