Ok so my drivers side door lock is acting stupid. I cant turn the key in either direction initially, but if I jimmy it a little, I can get it to LOCK the door. Getting it to unlock the door take a little bit of work and about 5 minutes. What can I do to get this damn thing to work (or just open when I turn the key)

x2 liquid graphite or wd-40 if you have nothing else

And have a rag on hand to make sure you don't get too much on your paint.

I have keyless entry so keys have never really been used in my door locks and i have the same problem. I have bent a few keys trying to get it to turn, but nothing. Sprayed lots of rust check in there, nothing. If i ever lost my only remote i'd have to use the trunk to get into the car LOL.

Its a 97 GSR body. I dont think anyone tried to tamper with the lock because there is no (visible) damage. It isn't they key because it works on the other side. I can get it to lock if I Ace Ventura shake the key but not unlocking.I will try spraying wd-40 but I don't think that's gonna work.

if spraying a lube in there doesn't help maybe you should take the door panel off and check for obstructions under the door panel?
it's probably a long shot, but, just a thought.

I fixed the son of a bitch. I went outside to clean up dog poop and just stared at my door the whole time, prompting me to spray the **** out of it with WD (which didn't work) and eventually I took off the door panel (which I absolutely hate to do). I checked the two lines and they were both unobstructed and fully operational. I looked at the actual lock while toggling the auto lock button back and forth and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't open with a key. I used the button to open it with the key in the hole and it fixed itself. It seemed as though I didn't have enough leverage before to turn it to open, or as if I was lifting something heavy with the mechanism but it seemed to have come loose when I unlocked it from the inside with the key turning to the open position. I sprayed everything down real good with wd40 and ghetto rigged a straw to my can so I could get inside the lock itself. Again, I have no idea how it got fixed but it did.

Meh. Theres no space to work inside the door so that would have been a PAIN. I'm just glad it freed itself up. Now I unlock the door and its so smooth that it makes me smile every time. Simple pleasures
