Does this sound right?
I've been having idle problems for awhile. Everyone tells me it's a vacuum leak, so I take it to my mechanic to see where it's coming from. He calls me back later and says that the leak is coming from my intake manifold gasket? I didn't think that could be it because the problem occured when I was cleaning off the wires and I figured something came lose. Usually I would bite my lip, but he wants 25 for the part and another 200 for labor? he says it will take 3 hours. I don't see how that's possible. Anyway, is there a diagram somewhere that shows all the vaccum lines so i can check myself to make sure it's not coming from somewhere besides the intake manifold gasket? I don't have the $$ to pay to replace it so i would appreciate it.
Thanks, I'm not that mechanically inclined. Is it a hard job, or is it just lengthy? Any diagrams or anything would be helpfull

thats not 'shady' at all, there are industry standards at how long certain jobs will take, they charge by the hour and per job, itll take him about an hour and a half, but he's is still able to charge for the full 3 hours, thats how mechanics work.
i dont think thats your leak however. if i were you id get a friend who knows a little something and pay him to find the leak.

I have a Haynes, but don't think it's in there. Aren't helms like 100? Don't have the cash for it yet, thus the reason why I didn't let the mechanic do it in the first place
take it to another shop, explain your idle problem and have them look at it, if they say the same thing he did then do it yourself and buy the part, its not that hard to pull off an IM, just take a picture of how everything looked before you messed with it, and put it back together accordingly.
