Do you think its worth it?
I know a guy that is selling a '90 Integra GS for $900. I'm debating on buying it and having a local shop swap or rebuild the engine while I'm gone at basic training. Then when I get back maybe buy a body kit and get it painted.
This is what he has told me about the car....
"The car is currently running but leaking oil do to stretched head bolts (I havnt checked the compression, but it runs decent enough to asume its fine). With a proper rebuild it would run great im sure! 15k miles ago a new clutch was put in. new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, throwout spring, flywheel bearing, and the flywheel was turned.. The car could use some visual aids like a paint job. needs new ds fender. Everything electrical works, cruise, power windows, ect..
There is no rust or hail damage on the car.. The usual dings you would find on a 14 year old car, but nothing bad. The driver seat is worn on the side as most older cars, but the rest is good.. the carpet could use a cleaning but is good, passenger seats are good ect.. Frames straight, brakes are good. all 4 tires on the GS wheels are worn, but I have 3 steelies with good tires.. I can get a 4th.. same size tires, but not matching tread.. title is clear and in hand."
Heres some pics...

So would you pay $900 for this car?

Yes I think it is worth it since you said body was in decent condition and everything pretty much works. It would be an ideal project car.
Sounds like a steal if you ask me. Btw good luck with basic.

14 year old car in that condition, i'd offer $450. Engine work may or maynot be needed, but at that mileage, i'd bet you will be needing the extra $ for maintenance work.
a new clutch would be considered standard maintenance through normal wear and tear.
if the was in good condition, i'd offer what he's asking but considering the mileage, highly unlikely. 167k yikes

Did you read the post? It has a new clutch and engine work is needed but I would rather swap it anyway.
The reason he is selling it is to pay off his $450 in tickets so I really doubt he will go as low as $500 or $450.

personally NO i wouldnt pay the 900 bux it is too much for a car like that
900 bux + 3000 for a swap or less if u buy 1 from a junk yard + 2000 for other maintaice (such as... timing belt, tune up, tires, any leak that doesnt go wit the engine n prob other **** he hasnt said) + 500 (for a ghetto paint job MACCO) or 2000 (for a REAL 1)= NOT WORTH IT!
find a clean DA wit highmiles for around 3000 or less... no paint needed... swap around 3000 and ur ready to RIDE!

wont need timing belt change if you spend 3000 on a new engine...

HT is known for it's lowballerz
so asking on here might not give you the best perspective, (not saying that anyone above is a lowballer
).
KBB fair trade-in value on this car is $1275, good trade-in value is $1750, and fair condition private party sale is $2700. 167,000 miles is not high for an integra of this age. that's a little over 12,000 miles a year average which is good. I bought a DA for a friend last year with 237,000 miles for $1700 bucks. He drove it for a year, made a few upgrades and had to replace the alternator, starter, and one cv joint.........then I sold it for him a few months ago for $1500 with 245,000 miles still running strong.
So to answer your question, the price is not a bad one as long as it's a clean car with a clean history (run a carfax), and it drives straight without any hesitation.

Yeah, I dont understand why peeps are saying offering $450-500. $900 is a great price for that car. But if your considering doing a swap and owning a project car. Why not go with a hatch?
I paid 190 bucks for mine and have sunk almost 6k into it now. Just be ready to fix EVERYTHING on a car that old. Even if he says its good to go.....I love my DA but I often feel like pushing it off a cliff
i think its a great deal. if you're planning a swap to get rid of the engine problems i'd suggest a b16. mine was 1400 shipped to my door. a shop could throw that in for about 500. the only thing about it is my b16, and a buddies of mine, needed a tune up and a new clutch, but that isn't so bad. then a paint job can wait, and the interior you can clean up yourself. then you'll have a great running little car that'll last you a while. also it'll be pretty fun.
I'm going to run the VIN as soon as I get it from him.
I will definitely try and talk him down, hopefully I could get him down to 7 or 8 hundred.
Thanks, guys you have been some help.
