i'm afraid that no matter how long youre in redline...if you get in it...your engine is blown...
either way, i just don't wanna take a chance...its better safe than sorry you know??</TD></TR></TABLE>
As long as you operate the engine within it's parameters, you wont blow it up any time soon.
You're shifting too early. 7k? Weak. The engine is designed to do 8200RPM. The tach may be off. My Si says I'm revving to 8500. Fuel cut is at the stock (safe) rev limit.
I've had my S2000 at 10,500 RPM after 35min straight at road america. I kept going for another 25 mins. Then another hour straight the next day in 90 degree heat. That was the car's 8th track day in about 7-8 months of driving time. I plan to do it over and over and over and over again (the track days). On track days, I shift at 9k every time. The downshifts range from 6k to about 8k usually. 10,500 was an accident lol. I said some swear words, but never slowed down.
I've revved my B16A to 9200RPM. Nothing wrong with it ever.
I revved my 158k mile GSR to 8200RPM atleast once a day. Never had issues. Drove that car between 80-100 miles daily.
I rev my Si to 8200RPM all the time. Drive that car 80-100 miles daily.
My SR20DET would sit on the revlimiter if I was drifting...sometimes it would kiss the rev limiter coming out of a turn also. I'm used to really high revving cars.
I could go on...but my point is that today's engines are very very reliable. Especially Hondas. Just rev it out to 8200RPM. Better to have fun than to be unessecarily safe.

...yeah but that still doesn't come close to the real name of the 5700RPM phenomenon. It has nothing to do with VTEC, so if people know it by "secondary VTEC", they know it by the wrong name. People who dont know whats what may learn the wrong name that way as well.
If your name was Steve, but people knew you by Dave, it doesn't make Dave the right name. Also, when people call you Dave, other people that dont know you start calling you Dave. Wouldn't that **** you off? I'd be pissed. I hate Daves.
It's easier to just call it what it is.</TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah whatever DAVE. jk

Did you tune your ECU and forget to set the rev limiter or is your tachometer way off?

This happened on a borrow chipped ECU with rev limiter set at like 12k, was running way to rich for my car, when I dyno'ed with it it was running like 11:1 A/F. Now I have a chipped ECU of my own with the rev limiter set at 10k so I dont have to worry bout accidently tapping it when I goto 9k if it were set to 9000-9100 or so.. I do have a CEL shiftlight at 8800 though. My bottom end is stock too with 115k miles on it, I'm amazed I still haven't blown up my motor, my rings are starting to go though.

Depends on the engine and trans and ECU combo. An engine with a B16A/B or ITR ecu will drop out of VTEC with a GSR trans from 1st to 2nd. The GSR's VTEC is at 4700 RPM. So an engine with a GSR ECU and GSR trans will not fall out of VTEC 1st to 2nd.
The butterflies close and open again with a GSR trans. The butterflies open up at 5700 RPM.
That seems to be a big issue of confusion with GSR guys. It comes up multiple times in the same thread invariably.
GSR VTEC: around 4500RPM
GSR's Butterflies open at : around 5700 RPM.
(With stock GSR ECU)
It should be stickied in the civic/integra forums.

If you're talking about a GSR, you RAISED VTEC. Read above.

Welcome to V-TEC.
Welcome to V-TEC.
Even on my car without the IAB's due to the Skunk2 IM and 5300prm VTEC, it still starts picking up more power and the power curve changes at around 6k, not as dramatic as when VTEC engages but noticeable. Yes, I have the dyno graph that shows this too, its not just my butt dyno.
