DO I NEED ENGINE MANAGMENT !!??
heres my dilema i got my b18c1 rebuilt ctr pistons b16 head typer manifold the works now im still running the obd1 95 gsr p72 my car bogs once in a while a dan at pfispeed told me i must get it tuned because the fuel map is not the proper ratio for my pistons, and thats whats causing it to bog. now the guy who built my motor told me i dont need that its perfectly fine to run the stock ecu on those pistons my cel shows a code 23 which i think is the knock senor code so could it be that putting my car in limp mobe causing it to run rich and bog thanks hook me up with answers!
Simply put, yes. Anytime you make modifications to your motor you need it tuned. The fact that you aren't running stock internals and a different manifold says it all. Not to mention if you are running an after market exhaust. Now you may be able to purchase an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and get a bit better run, but an ECU, such as Hondata (my personal favorite) or Crome (there are many more to choose form) will make everything so much easier. You will be able to actually see what is going on with everything. But if you know an experianced tuner just the FPR may help. Personaly I would get the ECU. If you ever upgrade more components you have the ability to set your motor right.
well the guy who built said i should get a p28 and chip it with crome. will that fix the problem what are the differences between hondata and crome?
The differences between Hondata and Crome are pretty big. Crome is a burnt chip, or at least it was when I delt with it, but i don't think it has changed much. The Hondata S300 can be configured without ever leaving the ECU. You, or a tuner (which I suggest) can simply hook up a laptop and see what is going on, and modify what needs to be changed then and there. In my opinion Hondata S300 is the best choice. And you also answered your own question here. The guy who rebuilt it even suggested a tuning program. Now he said Crome but that is a personal preferance. You can do what you can afford, and feel comfortable with. Oh and I don't think you need to go and purchase a different ECU either. You should be able to keep yours, chip it, and get it tuned. That is unless you are trying to do an OBDI swap. But I need to know what motor your running.
ok so i can do the same thing with crome as s300 as far as proper fuel? and i have the 95 gsr block the civic si b16 head. but what im wondering why would he suggest i use the p28 ecu isnt that for a single cam vtec i understand it doest read some sensors but whats the significance of that?
No P28 is for DOHC. And yes both programs can do pretty much the same but Hondata made it easier. You can tune the ECU with a laptop, download base maps, and datalog all with out removing anything. With Crome you need to burn a new map on a chip wich can get a little annoying when your initialy trying to get everything setup. And as far as the sensors go I'm not sure I follow. I know the P72 has IAB capabilities but you can always make adjustmants for that type of stuff on any ECU. Also with the Hondata, you can keep your stock ECU and set up the S300 to allow V-tec on a non V-tec ECU.
