I know this is very off topic, but I see a lot of people here own digital camera's. I am interested in buying one and I am looking for recommendations.... I want it to have good quality, with zoom, etc. Thanks!

Check out Olympus, no its not a high end name brand like others, but it gets the job done quite well. I also like the Sony cybershots.

well i have the canon digital elph (s100) the only reason why i like this is because it is freekin compact.. it is the same size of a credit card.. but as for quality I give it a 7.. but in low to dim lighting this camera aint the best..

if you're looking to spend 200 I dont think youll get anywhere.. why not spend like 100 more and get something worth while.. my friend has the olympus 360 (not sure of the exact model#) i think it goes around 250~ now .. it takes real nice pictures but the features arnt user friendly.. for ex. serial connection (slow as ****) viewing pic after taking them is a hassle.. so as they always say you get what you pay for

best thing to do is goto a digi cam review site and look around for the features that interest you most

I have a Sony Cybershot and love it. I would try and get something with at least 2.1 Megapixels or better.

Is it worth paying the extra money to get above 3 mega pixels? It seems like 2-3 is average and above is better, but the price goes up quickly. I am looking to take pictures to download on my computer, etc. But I also want to be able to take action shots( like racing) with a zoom. As you all know you can't get that close to the track

Olympus D-370 for $199 at Best Buy. It only has digizoom and it SUCKS. Pretty much point and shoot. Downloading the pics via USB is cake work! When connected to PC, it makes the camera look like a removable HD.

For ***** and giggles one night I timed myself. I took a picture in the garage, DL'ed to desktop, posted it my Pics webpage, and then posted on Htbrid board.
All in under 2 minutes!

Just a sample with resolution set at 640x480

thats what i got... excelleent.. it takes me about 2 minutes to transfer about 80 pictures from thee camera to thee pc... you plug in the usb into the camera and click okay... so simple... you can even ad a lens adapter for a real zoom lens... it also makes mini movies... they can be as long as you want if you have enough memory, which is cool....

the only thing i dislikee about the camera is the picture editing software... it sucks, good thing i have photoshop

btw.. it cost 300 about a month ago

hahaha...I sell digital cameras at circuit city so I think I might know something about this If you want a bad *** zoom camera, look at the olympus c-700...10x optical zoom and 27x digital...but it's $600. Anything good is not going to be cheap...you could get a high mega-pixel digital camera, but most of the time the lense on it is going to be a piece of crap...the hp cameras are a good example. The Cannon Elph s110 is pretty good...2.1 mega-pixels and its hella small...bout the same size as the nikon 775 but it's a little more low profile (and thinner). Will run I think $399. Everyone in the DFW area who wants a digital camera can stop by the Circuit City on Parker and 75 during the weekend and I'll try to hook it up...AIM ricebuckettyper if you have any questions

Browse the Hot Deals forum in forums.anandtech.com . There are great deals to be had there all the time, especially on digital cameras and flash memory cards.

I personally own an olympus camedia E-10 4mp digital SLR. its a professional camera tho.. I dunno if you wanna cough up 1400 dollars for one, plus 300 for a lithium ion battery pack, 300 for flash module, and 300 for 1 GB hard drive addition to make it really nice setup. I also own a sony mavica FD83, its pretty nice and u can get the from around 500-600 I think. The olympus is my pro camera for doing photoshoots.. I'm gonna try to sell it and get either a Nikon D1x or olympus E-20n

I just got a Kodak 3700 a few weeks ago, it has 3.+ mega pixels and came with a 64Mb card for $299 at Office Max. I love the camera but it loves batteries. I've since heard this about the Kodak cameras.

I dont have a camea myself, but I use a couple from work. One is a Sony Cybershot P-something...real nice and easy to use...and it can record like 15 seconds of MPEG! Now that is sweet...it costs around $800 though.

The other is a Nikon...around $900...but very good quality and great up-close shots.

This is a picture from the Nikon:

Not too shabby for detail work, takes good regular pix too. Just sucks at night like all digi's do.

Yeah, I have a Kodak DC3400, and it goes through batteries pretty quickly as well. I bought 2 sets of Mahacell NiMH batteries, this charger, and I've been much happier. I can take about 175 pics at 1700x1100 (approx.) resolution before having to switch batteries. The charger is great, only $25 or so and it can recharge 4 AA's in just a few hours.

Your best bet is to just check some good reviews, like at cnet and zdnet.
Sony Cybershots are good and loaded with features.

I like my Kodak camera, its really easy and of good quality. The docking station thing was definitly a great buy since it recharges the batteries so quickly!
