Damage Mods do on Engine Life...
Not sure if I should post this here of the FI forum.
I am looking to buy a teg gs and found a 98 with 92,000kms or about 57000mi on it. The only thing is that he has AEM cam gears and pulleys as well as a few small mods. Now, I plan to turbocharge the car on stock internals, hopefully, as my goal is 13's.
What kind a damage can the cam gears and pulleys do? I'm not very familiar with the cam gear mod.
I am going to do a compression test, but are there others things I can check to see that it will be able to handle the boost? Do I keep these aftermarket cam gears and pulleys when going FI?
Thanks!!

Cam gears are used to adjust the cam timing. Does he have aftermarket cams as well?
Pulleys I might be worried about. The P/S and A/C pulleys won't effect engine life, but I have herd numerous storries about how the underdrive crank pully effects the harmonic balance and causes serious internal problems.

The reason everybody wants to buy a car that isn't modded is becuase people who mod their cars drive the hell out of them. The truth is that if the car was maintained well it will be fine.
The Cam gears and pulleys on that car won't cause any damage themselves, but a poor installation or hamfisted driving will. Careful inspection of the car would be a good idea
Keep the gears and pulleys when you go turbo

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!!!!
Now, what would I inspect to see if there's any damage and what I'm I looking for?
Yeah thats exactly why I want a stock gs, that way I know the car has not been raped, or has been raped less atleast...
Oh, and is 57000mi still good to turbo?
Thanks again!!!!

Is it alright to turbo a car with 57000mi or 92000kms?
I am sure there must be a few guys with that kind of milage, but I just want to make sure, can this be confirmed??

If your worried about "engine life" you need leave your car stock and drive it as is... or just stick to "cosmetic mods" and go.. hahahahhahahah the "show" route...

driver A: drives the living hell out of the car. i mean this poor bastard sees the redline every day. lets just say ohhhh 10 times a day. driver A maintains his/her car per the "severe maintenance" schedule in the helm service manual. using only oem parts and the best fluids. think meticulous maintenance.
driver B: drives like a normal human being. i.e. it has only seen the redline TWO times in THREE years. the car is maintained pretty well for a non car lover. occasionally driver B may lapse and forget to change his/her oil for 1k miles, or maybe the tranny fluid gets changed at 50k instead of 30k. at any rate it is well maintained.
what the hell car would you rather have? i think the majority of individuals not intoxicated by some sort of stimulant or depressant would take car driven by driver B. just my common sense breaking through.
