Well im thinking of purchasing some cams and stuff, do i have to keep the cam gears the same brand as the shafts or does this not matter? also do i even have to replace the gears? instead buy pulley kit? 1996 Acura Integra RS,
You dont have the keep the cam gears the same brand as the cams. People just do that for brand loyalty purposes or b/c they may have got a good deal on the set.
I recommend getting the cam gears along with the cam shafts b/c while you replace the shafts you migth as well toss on the cam gears also. That way you do not have to struggle taking the old cam gears off.
Also it's more convient if you would like to dyno tune.
Pully kits are nice, however there is a big debate btw non harmoncaly balanced pullies and such causing harm to the engine a while down the road. If you get one get a Honda N1 Crank Pully.

What kind of motor do you have? Vtec? Non-vtec?
If you know how to do work yourself, obviously the labor will be free. It'll take a couple of hours if you know what you're doing. I'm pretty good with doing non-vtec headwork....since I own one. I haven't done anything on vtec heads yet.
Basically you have to know how to do valve adjustments and timing belts. If you can do those, you should have no problems doing cam installs.

Whoops, my bad, didn't read it carefully enough.
Okay...non-vtec like mine. Like I said, it's pretty easy to put in if you know how to do a timing belt replacement and a valve adjustment.
Like the other guy said, you don't need to keep the cams and the gears the same manufacturer. I wouldn't purchase a pulley kit at all. I don't see much use in this and the gains aren't really worth the trouble.
Look into Crower (that's what I use). They have a nice website that shows exactly what you need with each cam. Some cams require their spring/retainer set.
There are several other manufacturers, but I'm not familiar with the quality and performance of these.
