Icon6 d16a1 compression test?

Just throwing this out there correct me if Im wrong but normal cylinder compression in psi is 175-180 right. I lost my resources for this and just wanted to check, I have combed everywhere I could. Any help is great. Oh yeah my d16a1 is having power loss after 3000 rpms and my cylinder compression is from the cam gears 155, 150, 150, 158 to the distributor.

I may be wrong but that sounds about right for an older d16, as for power loss, when was the last time a tune-up was done, fuel filter plugs/wires/ etc.

I just did a rebuild on it and it was right around 1000 miles that it started this. I did more research and came across a rebuild thread that gave a break in time for rebuilds and I did rev it a bit after 400 miles but in the past 100 miles i started getting a knocking sound that i thought was the cat heat shield but it isn't. Now i am getting a whooshing sound when in idle revving at 3000 rpms. Can new rings break? No overheating problems, no leaks and all seals are still good, mains and cams.

Anything is possible if the build wasn't done correctly. The knocking sound could be your rod bearings, if you did overreved it during the 500 mile period you very well could have spun one

thanks man i thought the cylinder pressure is to low. A bearing might be the culprit. I am going to pull the oil pan and check the crank and i just order a new cometic headgasket and ditching that crappy graphite gasket, also new arp connecting rod bolts.

No problem. Just remember, Do it once, Do it right. Save you lots of money down the road.
Also your supposed to change your oil after 100 miles, and at 500. Also get a magnetic drain bolt to capture any metal shavings that might have gotten trapped in the head/block

pulled the exhaust and the core of the cat was loose so I hollowed it out and drained the oil, no shavings in the oil. I think the core of the cat was plugging up the exhaust flow and choking out the motor. Gonna top fluids off and start to check before dismantling the motor.

That could definitely be the cause of your power loss, but wont have any effect on compression. How did you do your test?

Compression consistency is a characteristic of the engine. The magnitude of compression is a characteristic of the engine and the gauge.

Compression numbers are pretty low for a rebuild. Did you rebuild the bottom and top end?

New valve guides/valves, and rings on the bottom end? It should be closer to 170-190 I'd say, especially since I'm assuming you decked the head which would increase the compression some.

Did a proper valve lash?

As far as the power above 3000 goes, a clogged exhaust would sound right. GOod thing you don't have any metal shavings tho :D
