Default Crower 403 b18b

I'm currently working on my ls it has a 96 spec type r header , cower 403-2 cams , skunk 2 cam gears +1 intake -1 exhaust , 2.5 inch exhaust with vibrant resonater instead of the cat converter and a yonaka muffler, gsr tranny , chipped p72 with a tune I made based of the stock gsr vtec map valve lash .oo6 in intake .oo8 exhaust redline at 8400 with stock valve train , reved daily for the past 2 months with no issues and very little oil consumption , it's been taking out mustangs and infinities lately , also running type r spark plugs , is anyone running a smilies set up , my next mod is a skunk 2 pro series manifold that I have in the mail which I'm hoping really brings out the cams

You are revving to 8400 on stock valve springs, retainers and rod bolts?

Yeah everything is stock 209xxx on the odometer right now

I think what helped a lot was 2 step colder spark plugs and the tune , it keeps the engine running smoother

Cams installed

The cams
Welding up 2.5 inch exhaust

So I installed the skunk 2 manifold with a stock throttle body and it feels like **** even with a better tune it's doesn't as good as the stock intake manifold even at high rpm

This is just a hunch, but maybe revving to 8400 with stock valve-train and aftermarket cams is a bad idea....

Not sure about the dyno but with the skunk 2 I lost to my brothers gsr and with the stock manifold I can stay ahead of him , my duty cycle is at 84 percent at 8000 73 at 7000 today I also did another degree of overlap for the intake and exhaust cam one degree each and it barely stays on the mid range is not as good so I'm going to set it back tommorow I think the stock trotted body is what's holding things back right now

It could also be the itr header/cat I've seen some hytech 4-1 race headers that put out some good number for 200/250 used.

Is it just falling on its face? Or still trying to make power still?

He has no catalytic converter, but yeah the 96 type r header could be holding him back a bit, if not valve float...

It doesn't fall on it face It just feels torqueless in the mid range and stronger in the top end but I prefer the feeling of torque in the midrange I think +1 intake-1 exhaust I is the best for midrange on this cam and I feel like the skunk 2 pro would be a better option for a b20 with b16 trans and crower 404 with upgraded parts to go with it

I feel like you need to upgrade your valve springs and rod bolts.

Also, long duration cams and high overlap likes (needs) higher compression. Overlap bleeds off dynamic compression and too much overlap with not enough compression will kill your low to mid range torque.

I tried the stock .006 intake .008 exhaust from crower website and it felt good then I tried .004 intake .006 exhaust which is stock ls and the completely killed the bottom end and now I tried .007 intake .009 exhaust and it feels much smoother at low and high rpms engine is quieter to , well so far I have about 7k on running my motor like this without any issues I'll let you know when It blows

I tried some headers already and they made good power but the car would blow a lot of white smoke at low rpms with them and I couldn't t stand the smell

I'm gonna upload a video shortly with the valve lash set at .007 intake .009 ex +1 intake -1 exhaust for the cams, with stock intake and the 96 spec header 0-60 roll

Larger valve lash clearances will effectively reduce cam lift and duration numbers, while tighter valve lash numbers will increase the effective lift and duration of a given camshaft, to a small extent.

I really have no comment for your header remark other than lol what does that have to do with anything.

On a lighter note, the exhaust sounds very good.

My newest mods are I put some plm rmf headers on and I put my skunk 2 pro manifold back on and it pulls way more up to now and the mid range feels about the same , it defiantly needs a b16 tranny now peak power come at about 8k , the rmf header really woke up that skunk 2 manifold up

Why don't you install some valve springs that are actually safe to 8000 rpms?

I haven’t posted in a while but I still have the rmf headers but now I got a blox manifold which is a little smaller than the skunk 2, I got 290cc prelude injectors , I got an lm-2 wideband Hooked up the the stock o2 sensor wires and it data logs pretty good with datalogger I was running really rich at low throttle and really lean at full throttle before , my max duty cycle is now about 86 percent but on the data logger it never makes it that far right so the duty cycle probably goes up to 80 percent at 8000 rpm wot I had maxed out th stock injectors already so I picked up some 290s also my cam gears are now at +3 intake and about -2 or 3 exhaust power comes in at about 5500 and everything below feels like a stock ls idle is steady once it warms up , don’t have a dyno but is will burns the tires for a second or two on second gear , it has brand new toyo extensa stock size , I would say it’s making 180 hp at the crank comparing it to my brothers gsr and his gsr will take an rsx type s, I feel like putting my swap in a lighter car with some smaller tires and it would be a fun car to drive no one would expect an ls to pull like that
