cost of motor swap ?
What is the average cost of labor for someone to swap the old motor out for a newer one ? Just wondering so I don't get my ***** sqaushed on the curb point with a sludge hammer.

Re: cost of motor swap ? (redDAinteg)
I honestly have no idea what I would charge someone if I owned a shop. But if i were doing it for a friend I would expect food, drinks (maybe including a few brews), and gas money. Maybe 20-50 bucks on top would be nice, but its not expected.
To help get a better estimate it might help others if they knew what kind of car you have and what motor you plan on swapping in.

And for the record I have never done or helped with a swap. I just stated what I get when helping friends and what I offer when friends help me.

yeah its a 92 integra LS and a jdm gsr is going in. im already getting the chipped ecu for it and a right side manifold. So its just a swap and 3 wires for vtec, oil pressure and knock.

im doing a b20 swap in my friends 96 integra as we speak. pulled the blown ls/vtec out today.
Im charging him $500 only because he's not really my friend and i gotta drive 40 miles there and back to his house. And I'm redoing the wiring in his engine bay and I had to find him a new engine.
But the local shop said they wanted $1000-$1500 to do the swap.
It took me 4 hours to pull the engine. That was taking my time, talking, and everything came out smoothly.

I had a couple honda technicians do my swap. It cost me $600 in labour. The price of the engine, machining, pistons, rods, cams, blah blah was the expensive part. Also note these techs are two of my buddies so I got a lesser rate than some of the others for the amount of work they did on my engine (rebuild, tranny swap, etc).

just make sure you take it to someone who really knows honda/acura and will do a really good and clean job. I did my swap in my 92 gsr and it turned out mint.
find some local guys from honda-tech with a good reputation and pics of their work.

ya why?
all you need to do is use a adjustable fuel pressure regulator to up the fuel pressure because the b20 requires more fuel.

Um, the ecu would take care of that.

ill be using a stock obd2 p75 LS ecu and apparently it wont run good on that map. thats just what i've heard. everyone so far said that the ecu will be fine, i just need to add some up the fuel pressure.
whats ur opinion? will that ecu be fine? or what should i use? i need it to be an OBD2 ecu.

Re: (92integraVTECgsr)
I don't think you will have an issue, don't forget the ecu uses the 02 sensor to get an idea of how the car is running. Curious, why are you running the ls ecu instead of the gsr ?

Re: (90blackcrx)
its just a stock B20. will a gsr ecu run a stock B20? I need it to be OBD2 and run the b20 without any problems or throw any codes. the only reason im keeping it obd2 is so i can pass emissions. (well its all for my friend)

Re: (92integraVTECgsr)
I thought it was a b20 vtec, disregard what I said.
You can almost get any ecu to run on any car, as long as the engine is pretty much stock.

I have a good friend who is a honda tech, hes been working on cars specifically hondas his whole life(hes 36). I'm going to try to ask him for 300$ first. Then work it up if needed, because im getting the motor and all the parts so I figure thats a fair price of 300-500$.

Re: (redDAinteg)
ya its fair.. its a lot of work and can be a pain in the *** if it doesnt go smoothly.
I charged my friend $500 and I found him his new B20 motor and doing all the driving to his place. It's just fair.

i would just say do it your self. get a couple good frieends together and go at it. save you some money and you will learn something. theres plenty of books, manuels, and info out there on how to swap.
