i have a problem where the thermostat goes from C to H when i am braking or when my car is idle, but when i gas the car it goes back to C. i checked the reservoir the coolant is gone but its not leaking. i went to the mechanic and they said there was no leak but there is something wrong with the engine. he said it could be the head gasket, water pump or timing belt.
they said it would cost $495 for parts and labor to fix it.
is that a good price or is there any place i can get the parts for cheaper.

dont do anything unless your sure or they are sure what the problem is.
take off thermostat and check its working, do a compression test, could be air bubbles in the line, flash and refill.
