Default Coolant Loss

92 four door teg 5 spd
Bone stock
276k miles (org motor)

Few weeks ago I notcied that when I stopped the heat would go away. Figured it was the t-stat so I went and replaced it and the gasket and topped the coolant off. Bout 1.5 weeks later I noticed the heat was going away agian when I would stop. I checked the coolant level and saw that it was low but I havent really seen any coolant on the ground or anything. Coolant looks good. Cant see anything in the oil and dont really see anything leakin on the block from anywhere that coolant would be at. Radiator is good too. Figured it might be a head gasket but i really dont think it is so my next guess is that the water pump seal is goin and its leakin from there.

Any other thoughts?

check the area around the water pipe, it's the pipe connected to your thermo and water pump...the o-rings at both ends can leak easily....

fudge, the one coolant-carrying item on my engine that hasn't been replaced, and I didn't do it when I had the engine out 2 years ago. I'll be pissed if those start leaking on mine anytime soon.

You got an overflow can? if not put one on, mine was losing coolant and low and behold it was due to not having the overflow tank. I didn't know it would cause the issue until one day while taking a ****, i was reading honda-tuning and they had an article on the honda cooling system lol.

If you do have an overflow check all hoses and clamps

Nvm...I know what youre talking about. Yeah Ill look into that. I should also mention that when this all started happening...when i do a cold start there is a squelling noise coming from the water pump side (not a belt) which helps me think that its the water pump and seal.

Car is bone stock so yes it has a overflow tank. Nothing has been takin off the car. Nothing has even been modified. I bought it two years ago bone stock for the sole purpose of using it as a DD car.

I'd say leaky hose or bad clamp somewhere then. The water tube he's talking about is on the back of the block. It has 2 o-rings on it. 1 of them goes into the block, the other goes into the thermostat housing, they do go bad.

haha yeah man if you have fat hands like me you'll be pissed for sure...it's a mess and kind of difficult to work in that area with fat hands...

i have a mysterious coolant loss as well. i had no oveflow tank so i put a monster can in place of a overflow tank(works well and holds coolant just fine), then i replaced both o-rings on the water pipe since one of them was leaking for sure(coolant was dripping out of that area) and now i still have coolant missing. i check my coolant level everyday and top it off everyday...so i know what you mean.

you should buy one of those tools you connect to your radiator and pump air through it, then look at the hoses and check for any leaks...it's a great tool since it can help you visually.
