converted to non abs and now having a problem...
ok so i did a conversion to non abs... i bought a new master cylinder too and i put everything in and after driving the car for about 100 miles the master cylinder all of a sudden is now holding pressure... i will drive for about 5 minutes now and the brakes will slowly build up pressure until eventually i could have the car in first and pedal to the floor and the car barely drives... i have to get out and crack the lines going to the master cylinder to allow the brakes to actually release... could this be a faulty master cylinder or does something need to be adjusted that i may have forgotten to do?
not to sound stupid but where would i do that, i havent really delt with brakes much... atleast not that part yet.. i jus need to know where and how to do that so i can try it cuz im takin my car to get tuned next month and i need to fix this problem asap first...
did you replace the booster too or just the master? if you didnt remove the booster than its the master.... if you did remove the booster than the pushrod adjustment is prolly the problem....

sounds like you mixed up the master cylinder and the brake booster. You can't mix and match those even if you adjust the pushrod. Just put the original one back on and you should be fine.
the original master cylinder is for abs... you cant put it back on because i eliminated the whole system... it worked fine for about a week and then all of a sudden now as i drive for 5 minutes the brakes slowly begin to compress with out me hitting them... i then have to stop and crack the lines that go to the master cylinder and releive the pressure so that the brakes actually release... another thing is i switched to the syntheitic brake fluid... could that be causing it at all? as far as i know it just has a higher boiling point...
lol im curious now what brand model brake fluid did you use.... cuz they arent all compatible.... and where did you get this master? im assuming kragen/autozone? well it might be that the master is defective..... which would not be uncommon.... or that the non-abs master is not meant to be put on the abs booster?
oh and if your cracking the lines at the master and the brakes release then that narrows it down to the master or the booster or the fluid....
also why the need to remove abs?????? i think its stupid.... have fun in the rain/snow..... and please dont say weight reduction..

yes weight reduction but only cuz the whole abs unit was shot and CAUSED me to get into an accident... plus every other one my vehicles didnt have abs and i drove fine in rain and snow... you only need abs if you CANT drive and suck at it... or freak out easily...

Then why do sanctioning bodies apply a weight penalty to cars equipped with ABS if it is a performance detriment? (I'm referring to the ITR in the old SpeedVision World Cup Challenge.) ABS is beneficial in 99% of situations.

This is definitely leaning towards a pushrod adjustment.

I'm running my abs brake booster and abs master cylinder. It's not the brake fluid. I went through this same thing when I did my brake conversion, and it was because I put a non-abs master cylinder on a abs brake booster.

yah that one percent is when it causes the brakes to fail like it did with me... i hate abs, never had it except till i got the integra, there for i dont like it and dont need it imo on any of MY vehicels... you may like it but i DONT... so dont sit here and go through a whole write up or anything on abs and benifits because i will not listen to any of it due to me not liking it in the first place... so everyone just leave that out... try sticking to the subject which is answering a question... everyone always bitches about getting off subject so dont do it...

Now that have ranted about physics that you do not understand. Have you downloaded the Helm manual yet which will tell you how to adjust the booster and master cylinder? The ABS and non-ABS brake boosters have different part numbers as well. superls92 had the same problem. Perhaps the mixed booster and master cylinder is not a compatable option.

BTW: how did you ABS cause your brakes to fail. IM me so that it doesn't clog the thread. I can use the entertainment.

idk, if i knew then i woulda jus tried fixing the problem... i hit brakes and the abs kicks in and then all sudden was as if i got off the brakes... tires didnt lock up and no skipping like the abs should have... and front end even picked back up as if i let go of brakes... if it didnt fail then there should have been no reason i got into an accident... wasnt going real fast and had plenty of time to stop... a witness even saw and said it was as if i hit brakes for a second and let go of them and said ****** lets hit that person... they said the front nd picked back up also and that car didnt slow down at all... so why dont you tell me how it failed... cuz id sure as hell like to know how and why... and dont tell me that abs doesnt fail because i know of two other people that have had similiar things happen and they wrecked their cars also... so dont tell me **** because I had the experience and NOT YOU... their for i think i was there and not you...
If that is true, file a complaint with the NHTSA. The fail safe mode for ABS is to behave like conventional brakes. Big companies like to cover their asses from litigation. Did you pull stored ABS fault codes? Was the reservoir for the ABS full? If the system was not maintained, yes it could fail. Conventional brakes will fail if the fluid level is too low.
Regardless, your current problem most likely stems from the incorrect booster and/or rod adjustment.
