Default Comptech vs Beaks

Comptech sells a rear lower tie bar reinforcement for sway bars. I don't feel like shelling over $400 to comptec, yet I don't want my rear bar to tear out!!!! Is the Beaks Kit just as good? http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/product316.html

my car is a 97 Civic hatch hybrid. Those cars don't come with rear swaybars, so it needs to be tough.......I.E-from autox track to home to school to the market etc, etc,..All purpose

The Beaks kit works just fine, I've had mine on for over a year with no problems whatsoever.

The comptech is more than a tear out kit. It is a tie bar. It keeps the connection points for the lower control arms from flexing. The build quality of this peice is great. I just got mine the other day. If you are considering a tie bar I would just go ahead and get the comptech kit. It all works out since a comptech tie bar alone is about $200. Plus Comptech sends everything you need to install (all new bolts, bushings, lube, loctite, etc).

I normally would not recommend the Comptech tiebar/swaybar combo (nice product but high price tag), but in your case (since you own a '97 Civic) I would recommend it. The reason that I say this is because the '96-'00 Civics are prone to subframe tearout when using a larger rear swaybar. The reason they have trouble is because the mounting points on the subframe are on the very outside edge of the suframe sheetmetal, which does not provide a rigid enough surface for a larger swaybar to mount to. If you have ever notice the '92-'95 Civic / '94-'01 Integra / '93-'97 Del Sol (they all share the same suspension subframe) swaybar mounting points are on the inside of the subframe (ie. inside of the lower control arm bolt), which provides a much more stable and secure mounting point for the Type-R, as well as other larger, rear swaybar. So the best bet, in your case, would be to purchase the Comptech tiebar/swaybar combo.

BTW, Beaks kit (along with my BSQ Type-R rear swaybar mounting kit) will not work on a '96-'00 Civic since the subframe is different.

BSQ-What are the chances that the comptech, could tear out also? If anyone has had their swaybar tearout, I know you understand my paranoia. Cost me $1k to fix!!!

Get the comptech kit. It won't tear out.

I would not worry about the Comptech tiebar/swaybar combo tearing out. The way that it is attached to the suspension subframe should eliminate all chances of subframe tearout. I do understand your paranoia and I hope that I (and others) have at least put your mind at ease.
