obviously didn't do your research... the dyno comparison of this and other intakes show the icebox makes the most power.

An intake doesn't do anything anyways unless you have plenty of other engine mods. It is a good place to start unless you will be boosting in the future. I just have a comptech drop in filter and that's good enough for me... If you want an intake get a used one or one off ebay with a K&N filter or a comptech filter... you'll be disappointed with the results if you drop 200 bux on an intake that gives you 1hp.
The Comptech has a much larger, more direct, and smoother inlet tube going into the box compared to the factory inlet tube, which is longer, of a smaller diameter, and has many angles and sharp corners/edges for incoming air to maneuver around...all these things slow down airflow and make it much more turbulent.
Also the interior surface of the Icebox is much smoother to further avoid turbulence compared to the stock box, which has many hard right angles and protruding edges, which disrupts and slows flow further.
Removing that box in the fender is a step in the right direction to improve the stock airbox breathing ability (that box is mainly there to quiet the intake system, and to help prevent hydrolock to a small degree), but its still no contest compared to the Comptech.

That's absolutley not true. My very first mod was an AEM CAI (I have the Icebox now) and there was no question whatsoever there was an increase in power. Anything aftremarket is gonna be better that the stock system, yes even a $10 Ebay SRI.
Picking the correct style of intake is more important when you have advanced mods and a target powerband, but on a car with just bolt on's, or a car that will have just an intake, the difference between having a CAI or a SRI or the Icebox is pretty nill. But like I said, any of them will be far better than the stock system/stock filter.
