Compression Test...???
BAsically my 94 teggy LS is at the point where i need to do an oil change. I got everything I need already to do it.
I also went out and bought a compression test kit because I havent done one on the car yet and noticed some oil around the valve cover and head as well.
I just want to figure out what the leaks are... Not sure if its cam seals, valves, or head gasket..etc.
I was wondering if I should do the oil change first and then do compression test or other way around??
... any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

doesn't matter, make sure you unhook your coil ground when you do the test. if you don't and your car doesn't start after you do the test don't come back with another thread "my car doesn't start"
yea i was just wondering if it mattered with oil change or not...
WIth the coil, yea i gotcha. With the throttle... you gotta block it open with something when you do test correct?? And also disable the fuel pump... Just want to make sure i got most of it down besides everything else.

Honestly one of the best write ups I have seen for a compression test is here:

yea, thats exactly what i was sayin lol.
Anybody have any idea what the numbers should be for compression test for an B18B1 LS with about 99,000 miles on it??
Car is pretty much stock, besides exhaust, header, CAI.
What would be considered healthy for compression?

I would look in my Haynes Manual too, but my friend is "hiding" it on me lol. (Friends dont let friends borrow manuals)
But yea, thanks for the numbers... let ya know what mine are when i do the test.

I think I have 2 or 3 compression testers in my garage that came from my grandfather's old shop... I should probably check my compression, considering it's NEVER been checked since I bought the car 7 years ago
But then again with 270K on it and the engine running fine, why bother

optimal compression for a b18b1 LS is 185 psi (from Helm manual).
i dont know if that how-to link mentioned it, but it also helps to pull out ALL four spark plugs.
