compression below acceptable levels
about a year prior to this my car broke a timing belt. swaped it out. did a compression check and the b18b1 registered 170psi across the board. car ran great. last week the car instantaneously died. turned the ignition switch and a couple of the cylinders fired for a very breif period but then the firing ceased. when i finally got it home the ignition system didn't seem to be functioning.. so i replaced the ignitor and restored the ignition system..only to find the car still wouldn't start. my father did a compression check and all 4 cylinder's registered below 50 psi. the timing is spot on. i'm puzzled.
i'm going to park the car for the time being.. it needs extensive repairs. the rocker panels and the quarter panels have a considerable amount of rust. the bellhousing has a welded crack that’s slowly leaking transmission fluid. fuel lines and brake lines are spliced and rust to ****. as a primary vehicle i was never really able to do what i wanted with my integra. but as a secondary vehicle i'll be able to sand blast the rusted portions of the car, weld in the factory acura quarter panels and perhaps the rocker panels if their available (if not i'll reconstruct them as best i can) pull out the b18b1 and drop in a b18c1 engine tyranny combo.
But for now I’m going to focus on acquiring a new primary vehicle. Preferable a 2002-2005 civic. What is your take on the newer civics? Last year my friend bought a manual 03 coupe with 80k for 4800. he seemed to have good luck with it.
