Default Coil/Strut Spring Compression

Hey,
I am going to install my Koni's w/ GC's and I was wondering if I needed a spring compressor to swap out the old suspension and put in these new parts on my '91 LS. Some people tell me I do, some people tell me I don't. Can someone explain what the difference is between the strut spring compressor and coil spring compressor?

The easiest and safest way is with a spring compressor, but you don't HAVE TO use one. I am sure these guys will tell you how to go about it without one...

I installed mine myself and I would highly reccomend a spring compressor for your own safety.

what he said. it's possible to do without, but it costs nothing to rent the compressor (provided you return it; they usually require a deposit only)... just be prepared for a time consuming pain-in-the-*** when removing the stock suspension... you may also want to consider purchasing the GC upper strut mounts, as then you could leave your stock suspension intact to sell or stow away, and benefit from an extra inch of shock travel. they're relatively cheap, check them out. they're under the "newest honda parts" subsection of the Honda page on their site.

cheers

Now I'm stuck....Got my rear shock out and there is a self-locking nut holding the shock into the upper mount. Am I screwed or is there a way to remove it?

you have to use an allen key to hold the shock shaft in place while you turn the nut with an open-ended wrench. there's an allen socket right at the tip.
