Default clutch/gear problems

my cousin has a b20vtec in his db1. b16 cable trans.

his car last week as he was driving made this nasty grinding noise. we were unsure of what it was. but it only happened when the pedal was release in or out of gears. he didnt attempt to drive in gear though.

so we went and took the transmission off (now ive done this and clutch jobs at least 75 times to date) inspected everything. notice the ceramic has fallen off here and there. i also notice the rivets were grinding down pretty bad.

so we bought a new clutch. we didnt use the throw out bearing from the kit because it was for a 94 + integra. got a kit locally and its what they had. we bought a new throwout bearing from a local store and used that (same as the one in my turbo car with the same clutch) removed the flywheel and replaced the pilot bearing. used the old one as a guidance to seating the new one. put flywheel back after resurface a bit. no warp or discoloration. torqued in sequence. next up, clutch and pressure plate. i had it installed like this.

i had the throwout bearing installed correctly im sure cause it slides in and out as it should. compared to my b17 cable trans and its the same way. reinstalled the trans and everything else.

car turns on and the sound is no longer there. hooray! but now, the car doesnt go into gear being on. at all! even with the clutch cable loose, tighen and tight it still wouldnt. thought it could be the clutch cable. so i lent my brand new OEM and no, its still the same. car off, it would go into gear but ruffly. i stuck it in first with the clutch pedal down and turned the car on, it wanted to jump forward. at this point i really dont know what i did wrong. im trying to get some answers before i remove the trans again in the morning. sorry for the huge pix.

You said it's a b16 cable transmission right?
Those are a small spline transmission. 92+ use a big spline.

If yours is a small spline, that clutch probably will seem like it's fine, but feel a bit loose. I'm sure it's possible even that you've managed to cross the splines themselves, and locked the clutch to the input shaft.

it does fit a tad bit loose. the alignment tool fits the old clutch. but would that cause the gears to not go in?

Get the right clutch and see if it works. You need a 90-91 small spline clutch.

The clutch you have on there, is probably jammed onto the splines crooked now, making it so it cant slide on the input shaft. and yes, this will cause it not to shift properly.

the clutch that was in there previously is the same clutch so i know it will work. upon trans removal i notice the clutch disc is bigger than the pressure plate. no idea why it would be like that. it grind grooves into the pp from the tip of the clutch. pix will be up later.

i dont think there ever was a big spline b16 cable trans. and if the clutch that you had before was hitting the pp then clearly it would not be wise to use the same clutch. why dont you just get an oem clutch and pp for a 90-91 integra.

it doesnt matter what your turbo car has. the transmission is what matters. or are you saying you have a b16 cable trans in your other car

im not sure if you are reading any of this correctly. the ys1 b16 trans is big spline. which is what he has.

my turbo car was a comparison of the throwout bearing because the kit was for a 94+ and we bought a new one in store. some said the tb is not heavy duty that it would cause the gears to not go in. in which i said its the same bearing in my turbo car and i run the same CC 6puck clutch its perfectly fine. so that cant be a possibility of the problem.

the previous/old clutch did NOT hit the pp, it was the new clutch that was doing it. i found that after taking the trans out again today that it was chewing. so the clutch could be the culprit of the problem. it will be returned tomorrow and refund for a new kit.

ah ok so you have a later big spline, got it. it sounds like the clutch disc is the wrong model fo some reason and doesnt like that pp. that definitely sounds like the culprit to your problem as the drag from rubbing on the pp would keep it from diengaging properly.
