Check Engine Light
Yesterday, i went and added some gas to my 2000 GSR and didnt notice anything. But this morning when i turned my car on the check engine light stayed on, and im not sure what is wrong. i checked to see if the gas cap was loose but it isnt that. And when i drive it smells like something is burning, not really strong smell, but its still there. can anyone help me figure out whats goin on.
try reseting your ECU...and see if the check engine light comes on again...you do this by disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery...if the light comes on again, find someone to help you find the code to see what's triggering the check engine light
you dont have to disconnect the neg batt. term. unless you want to set all your radio presets again. all you have to do is pull the 7.5 fuse for the clock it clears the code make sure you leave the key in but do not turn on just make sure the radio and clock is on, pull the fuse out then turn the key forward one click for ten seconds then click key back then plug fuse back in. you ll have to set the clock again tho. you probably didnt turn the gas cap on hard enough if so the cel will go away after 3 starts and drives after you tighten the cap(if you dont clear the code).

If it just happened after getting gas more than likely, its just throwing a code for evap emission control.
Make sure your gas cap is on tight, and reset your ECU.
If it comes right back then youll know you have a problem.

If you want to find the CEL code:
Go to the passenger side of the car, look underneath the dash, on the far side (near the door.) You should see a plug right there, with two wires coming out of it. Itll be plugged into a holder. Unlplug it. Get a paperclip, or something, and jump it. (one side in + one side in -). With is still jumped, turn the key to "on".
The CEL will start to blink.... first long blinks, then short.
Count the longs (10s)
Then, short blinks (1s)
eg. 2 long blinks and 3 short= a code 23.
Then look up what that code means.

It's more than likely a code 90... I threw this code several times in my 99 LS... Since the last time it came on, I changed ecu's to OBD I to make sure if it's a sensor or actually something wrong... It hasn't reoccured again, so I am thinking it's one of those B.S. OBDII sensors...
