I have remote start on my 2-way pager alarm for a 5-speed GSR. It has been on for like 50,000 miles and I have had no problems with the clutch or remote start.
I belive you have to purchase something extra to bypass pressing the clutch in to start but other than that nothing else is needed.
But like I said I have had no problems, my clutch is stock and strong at 8x,xxx miles.

I have never heard of any problems just a bunch of nightmare - ish pictures, after someone borrowed their car and left it in gear........ BANG!!! through the garage door. Be careful with it bud.
I am not brave enough to do that with my car.

It won't damage your clutch, but as mentioned, there's the risk of accidentally leaving the car in gear, in which case the car, property, and people can be seriously hurt.

Mine is set up where it wont turn over if the car is in gear
You have to come to a complete stop, then put in neutral, then pull the ebrake up. If that is not done in that order the remote start does not arm and will not attempt to start the car.

when you install it make sure they put a shut off switch for the remote start. the same thing as the valet switch but seperate from it. even the alarm manufacturer says to install one. But as for the clutch no it will not harm it. I had it in my DA, my eclipse, and now in my DC and have never had a problem with. If that was the case then popping second gear to start a car is bad for the clutch, driving and rev shifting would be bad. just make sure the car is not in gear. Oh and the only alarm that will not allow the car to start in gear is the compustar alarm at least to my knowledge. It has a sensor in the brain for it.

I'm in the same boat as mike5809.
Got a 2-way Compustar on my manual GSR. I've had it on there for at least 5 years and have had absolutely no problems. It has a feature where you have to come to a stop, but the hand brake up, and not press the brake or clutch before taking the key out of the ignition for the remote starter to take effect. I dont think you could start the car in gear even if you wanted to with that feature.

i'm pretty sure it's just illegal here to have remote start on a manual car. no shop will install them. it's unsafe on so many levels. accidentally leaving it in gear and starting it can cause damage to your car, your property, another person, or someone else's property.
but to answer your question, no, i don't see how that could damage the clutch.

Re: (suspendedHatch)
Just spend a bit more money and buy the compustar one and you wont have any problems.
Trust me - it will not even attempt to crank or turn over with it in gear. You know when the auto start is armed as the car stays running with keys out of the ignition until you shut the door then it shuts it off and automatically locks.
With that said; I can see it being dangerous if you have a different model starter that does not have those safety features. Without them I would be hesitant using a remote start.

no it wont harm your clutch at all. the reason you have to press in the clutch to start the car is kinda like a safety thing so you dont start your car in gear.
theres a way to bypass it in order to install the remote start but your going to have to do it yourself cuz no shop will do it
