Default cam question

i have a 91 integ with a b18c block and a b16a head w/ gsr cams. the best time i pulled with that setup was 14.81 @ 92.4mph at lacr. i installed a set of 96spec itr cams and the best time i pulled with those cams was 15.12 @ 93.8 mph. i noticed that my mph was 1.4mph faster but i had a slower e.t.. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before? im thinking because itr cams make power at higher rpms (5800rpm to redline), running an ls tranny will hurt the power curve because of the long gears. i was told that running the itr intake cam with the gsr exhaust cam will cure my problem. any help will be very much appreciated. thanks!

Do you feel like you drove as well the second time?

Was there a noticable difference in conditions between the two times?

I dont see how the ITR cams could be worse...I beleive they make more power throughout the whole powerband over GSR's.

what were the 60 ft times?

You picked up a full MPH so your driving technique must have been alittle off, i.e 60ft time launching RPM and or shift points. I guess you would have to evaluate what you did differently during the run.

Did you just drop the cams in? Do you have any kinda of tuning device? (hondata, VAFC, fields, ext) from what I understand about ITR cams they work better with a higher then stock VTEC engadgement point. Also I think (not sure) that shifting at 8500 RPM's would help keep you in the power band and to do that you may want to think about ITR valve springs. I also know that cam gears can help out to.
As far as the tranny goes I would try to get a B16 tranny (same gearing as Type R but no LSD) or a GSR tranny to help keep you in the power band.

One more thing I see you have a B18C block with a B16 head. That combo will result in a lower CR and that can hurt your perfromance. some higher comp pistons will help too.

to answer your guys questions..........im running a v-afc with my setup and when i did my run it was set at 5800 v-tec x-over. i tried many different x-over points and 5800 seemed to feel the best. im running a 94 gsr block with spoon itr .25 over pistons. the head is a 96spec itr head with port flow inner valve springs and skunk2 retainers. as far as my driving........ i think the rpm's i launched at was way too low (3000). my 60ft time on the gsr cams was 2.39 and on the itr it was 2.41. im still thinking its the tranny. anyone have a s1 cable tranny for sale? thanks for the help.
