You gotta better chance wid the b18b, make sure everything else is oem parts though or at least CARB approved

How long do they give you before you have to see the ref?

There is no way around it...once the cop tells you to see the ref, the CARB expects you to be there on or before the due date....the process may take up to an hour or so and they inspect every single inch of the engine bay...they are gonna notice your ls vtec swap with the quickness so you have 2 choices. You can either swap out the head back to the ls head and change everything without a CARB number back to stock, Or you can try and get your swap approved. but good luck with the second choice since we live in CA. Good luck..

do they do a smog test? i think im going to try the b18b 2.0 with an ls head so they dont trip out. itll still look like an LS but im not so sure it passes the smog test. how much does the ref cost? anyone else that had to go through this crap? thanks all. or can someone lend me a b18b stock *** motor just for this, im in san diego.

The ref always does a smog test plus extras that other smog shops dont do. The fees are 30 bucks for the test and 8 bucks for the certificate if you pass. You do get a free retest if you dont pass though. Im in Daygo too and the only refs are in SWC and Escondido. I went to the escondido one because the 25 mile drive gave my cat time to heat up cause i hot cat is the best cat. Its more efficient when its hot. As for the swap, sorry but you will have no luck there passing. A jdm engine has a better chance of passing over an lsvtec. If you happen to find a stock motor somewhere, which wont be too hard, swap that in. Just make sure you have the papers on it so the ref wont thing its stolen. If you need someone to swap and engine, a teammate of mine can do it. Hit me up if you need to talk.

You don't have to go to the ref. I had too much stuff on my impreza when i got ticketed by the cop, but i just don't show u and simply pay the fine at the end. i paid $400 for fines. Skipped state REf all together since its basically pleating guilty without any chance of court..

not gonna pass. all motor swaps have to be the same year, or newer.

ie: 96 LS must have a 96 or newer motor.

wow..what do u mean u just paid the fines? so when the ticket comes home..its gonna say..go to the ref or pay? damn..id rather pay since its gonna be an easier way to get out off this. i want to know more about this though.

what do u guys think about this. what if i put the b18B 2.0 block in there with and LS head..since the compression on that motor is 9.1..wouldnt that givew me a better chance of passing smog?

thanks, anyone have a stock motor i can borrow?

they sure as hell are not going to look internally...i say go with the 2.0 with the ls head...the ls/vtec will not pass...otherwise find yourself a teg motor the same year or newer...oh yea the refs checked to see if my ecu was the correct stock ecu for that motor...plus make sure all codes are cleared...
