Compressors usually make noise if they're bad?

What about a leak at the evaporator core or the expansion valve. You gotta take apart the ventilation distribution box (inside the dashboard) in order to see the dye if its leaking from any of that stuff.

take it back to the shop that filled it with the r134a dye and they should be able to check for leaks with the black light.

good luck

Well, yeah, that's exactly what I meant. If the compressor were bad, wouldn't it be noisy?

I had a small leak ('89 Saab, R12 $$$$) & the shop put fluorescent dye in it. The leak was slow, so it took a couple months to leak out. Meanwhile, the dye smears around everywhere, so its not that easy to tell exactly where it's coming from. I got a blacklight, too. Do you know how much other stuff fluoresces in there, anyway?
