a/c mount problems
after changing my a/c belt that had been shredded, i noticed that one of the threads on the ac mount to mount it to the chassis were stripped. i thought i could just get by just with one, and last nite i noticed that the car was making this really sick knocking sound and today i found it to be the ac mount knocking against the chassis. i went to tighten the bolts down, and to my horror they were now both stripped!! how much stress is this going to cause to the a/c compressor and will it wear out the belts faster?? should i buy a tap and die set or what should i do with this?
i would personally tap the hole and get new bolts. if you don't drive your car too hard, you could get away with not using that mount. it's more of a torque damper. your real mount is about a foot up and back of the a/c mount. no damage should occur with that mount to chassis removed. your a/c compressor will move with the engine and so will the belt... they'll all move together so no problems there!
