A/C compressor problem, squealing

Today I was driving my car with the AC on and I heard a loud squealing and my car stalled. I made it home but when I tried to start up my car the car would squeal and stall out unless I reved it. The above pic shows what I found. It looks like plastic being shredded fromt he AC compressor. I assume this means my AC compressor is shot and is stalling out my car because it is seized. Has anyone else had this problem before?
Before I go out and try to fix this myself. How easy is it to change out the compressor and what other parts or steps do I need to do? I am about to go into the helms manual and hopefully it is covered there but any help would be much appreciated as it is very hot around here to not have AC.
Thanks,
AW
Wow what a coincidence. I had the same exact problem on my beater (91 Integra) yesterday. I drove to the store with the AC on and working fine. I got out of the store and the car wouldn't start, wouldn't even crank. I tried a few times until the battery died. Had a friend come jump me and it started up but would die unless I held the throttle down plus the AC belt was squealing like crazy. Turns out the AC clutch seized up and the pulley/belt was not moving at all. I held the throttle down until the belt burned off. Started smoking alot and made alot of noise but it eventually shredded lol.
My question is can the clutch assembly be replaced cheaper than it would be to just get another used compressor? A compressor can be found for cheap but the refrigerant recharge would be over $100.

I later found out I had a dying alternator which explains why it wasnt charging the battery, and why it wouldnt start.
So in one week, my AC compressor seized up, my alternator died, and it fried my battery.

I seized my compressor too, but from driving it too hard with the A/C on full blast. The compressor would squeal when I started the car, never had a stalling problem though. So, I just cut the belt to the compressor, and now I'm waiting for my used compressor i bought on ebay to come in
To properly replace the compressor, you should first have the system evacuated by an A/C shop.
With that out of the way... If you are buying a used compressor, make sure it has the proper ammount of PAG oil in it. Once you actually replace the compressor, you should use new o-rings at the A/C lines. Once the system is buttoned back up, you NEED to have the system evacuated. Unless you have a vacuum pump, you have to take it to a shop. Then the system needs recharged.
During the whole process you are probably going to be removing the PS pump/belt too, so I would probably go ahead and change the belts.
*edit: like someone else said... cutting the A/C belt should at least let you drive the car for the time being.

Can someone tell me if the wire harness plug for the AC compressor is different for OBD1 cars vs. OBD2? I am looking at buying a compressor off of a OBD2 car and hope it is the same?

that's sadd, mine started to squeek during may so i cut the belt off, knowing it was gonna seize up sooner or later. since then i haven't had it on and is in the process of looking for one. i think it's probably less hasso if you just go look for a use one because i don't know how hard it is to redo the seals and/or oil it. i'm not too sure about it. but about the obd2 and obd1 compressor, i believe all b-series are the same. plug and play!!
